The Bug Club’s On the Intricate Inner Workings of the System is out now worldwide from Sub Pop. The album, which features feel-good ditties “Quality Pints” “Lonsdale Slipons,” “A Bit Like James Bond,” and “We Don’t Care About That,” was produced and mixed by Tom Rees at Rat Trap Studios in Cardiff, Wales, and mastered by Mikey Young.
On the Intricate Inner Workings of the System sees the band serve up a beefy slab of their signature Modern-Lovers-meets-Nuggets garage rock, featuring B-52’s call-and-response fun mixed with AC/DC power chord grunt
What people are saying about The Bug Club’s On The Intricate Inner Workings Of The System:
“On The Intricate Inner Workings Of The System... is lean and mean. Recorded with Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard’s Tom Rees at his Rat Trap studio in Cardiff, its 11 songs crackle with incisive melodies and funny pop culture-addled lyrics – they reference The Great Escape’s Virgil Hilts one minute, and move on to the horror of Lonsdale slip on daps the next – but they’re in and out in under 26 minutes. Zero fat.” - NME
“Their chemistry and unique, often very funny, point of view make these songs stand out and highly replayable.” “Indie Basement” / “Album of the Week” - Brooklyn Vegan
“...it’s swollen with post-punk that cuts through the bubblegum-coated noise of this summer’s pop extravagance.” PASTE
“It’s rare for a band to be funny in exactly this way while delivering a record that genuinely rips.” See/Saw
British Birds - DIY Melancholic Psych-Pop band from the north of England: Chorley based British Birds is a musical collaboration with a DIY ethic and nostalgic charm; culminating in catchy hooks, lullaby-like melody and sobering melancholy. Ex members of Cactus Knife, Mums and Big Pixie bring timeless psych-rock with hints of Neutral Milk Hotel, The Vaselines and Ty Segall.

“LIFE’s third album displays levels of tenderness the band have never reached before” DIY MAGAZINE
“Thoroughly satisfying, a tremendously inspiring album.” - Louder than War

SUGARSTONE
If Ridley Scott made Blade Runner today, you can bet he’d hire Sugarstone to score his night club scenes. The cyberpunk, futurist sonic landscape created within the bands discography, and indeed reflected in the style of the band themselves, has landed them prominent support slots for Kid Kapichi, The Blinders, Witch Fever, VLURE, Calva Louise, CLT DRP, and Tokky Horror. With a slew of sold out headline gigs across the North West, Sugarstone are becoming a household name - for the quirky and questioning music fans of the cyberverse, and indeed our universe, alike.
The once alternative rock outfit have been shmoozing a genre shift for some time; with a proclivity for the unexpected and unusual, Terrible Tendencies their new EP has certainly solidified the Preston natives into their new sound. Tender Hook Championed by BBC Radio 1 Introducing Rock ‘Track of the Week’, ‘Single of the Week’ on BBC 6 Music The Finest Hour with Guy Garvey & by Simon Le Bon of Duran Duran on Whooosh! (Sirius XM).
+ WHINGE
A meeting of 4 jaded old friends from the underbelly of the NW music scene, Whinge began as a cathartic outlet & an attempt to press pause on the unrelenting passage of time.
Fuelled by nihilism & a playful eye for self-deprecation, one pub conversation too many saw their myriad of musical backgrounds meet their unpredictable approach to life, with the end result: ‘Whinge'. Like the best bands; more a gang than a group.
Post-punk informed DIY garage-rock played with gay abandon, Whinge live shows veer from intense & frenetic to creeping & sardonic.

LOOSE ARTICLES
Recently winning themselves coveted, high profile support slots with the likes of New Order, Foo Fighters, The Lovely Eggs, and Gang of Four, the quartet are proudly presenting an alternative touring model with their own run of headline dates next year.
Specialising in discordant, hypnotic repetition, tales of nights out, and radical politics, Loose Articles are a punk quartet with plenty to say. Their music speaks to all those determined to get through the age of austerity with tongue in cheek, and two feet firmly on the dancefloor. Plying repetition (repetition, repetition…) with ragged edges and a sardonic, sarcastic drawl delivered with fierce, in your face, punk-fueled attitude, both feminine & threatening, Loose Articles are here to make a point.
Already heavily championed by Steve Lamacq at BBC 6 Music (where they’ve also seen strong support from Chris Hawkins, Tom Robinson and Amy Lamé) the band have also picked up love from John Kennedy at Radio X, appearing on the Evening Playlist, and have appeared on Spotify’s The Punk List.
Elsewhere they’ve been covered by NME as one of The NME 100 list, endorsed by punk friendly fashion labels Fred Perry Subculture and Underground England, named as one of Under The Radar Magazine’s 22 for 2022, and have appeared on BBC One’s Football Focus as keen amateur pundits and fans of the beautiful game. Kick Like A Girl was released around the Women’s 2022 Euros, with Shoot Music supporting key sporting playlists - alongside a request from Dave Grohl to support the Foo Fighters in Manchester.

SOUNDCHECK SHADOWING & Q+A:
Giving inclusive, intimate access and entry-level insights into the music industry, whilst supporting grassroots venues and northern creatives, the band invite you to join them on their musical journey. They will be sharing the secrets of what it’s really like to be in their shoes, and a part of the Loose Articles touring team, which includes female booking agents, crew, promoter, and management.
Although tickets will be available to all-comers for the shows, the KLAG project is aimed at primarily engaging young female and non-binary people (ages 14 - 25) from marginalised backgrounds and groups who typically aren't represented in the music industry. The band will illuminate the pathways into the often male-dominated music scene with community outreach locally via local community groups in each town including Lancashire Music Hub, Sound Waves Cumbria, More Music Morecambe and local Library Services.
Commenting on the project, the band say: “This is the second Kick Like a Girl tour and from the reaction we had during and following the last one, we feel more than ever the importance as a band to be doing tours like this. We feel passionately about making changes in the music industry to address inequality. We want to create a shift away in the industry we operate in from being white male dominated.”
“Across all the job roles that exist—from being in a band to being a sound tech, promoter, manager etc—we want to encourage young female and non-binary people to get involved and feel like they can succeed in this line of work. As a band our song topics touch on gender roles and overcoming the struggles of being a gender minority in a male dominated industry, so why not actually practice what we preach about in our songs and really try to make a difference? We want all of the gigs we play to be a safe space for all regardless of gender identity. Everyone is invited to get involved with the party!”
Part of the funding from Arts Council England will also be used to subsidise overheads for the venues, all of which are independent, often overlooked on the mainstream touring circuits, and providing a vital service to their communities, meaning ticket prices can be kept low and accessible.
If you are female or non-binary (ages 14 - 25) come along to shadow both the band and crew at soundcheck, and ask as many questions as you like afterwards. Your name will be added to the band’s VIP LAFC club, and you and a guardian/friend will be placed on a special VIP guest list that night for the show.
These special VIP tickets are free and available on a first come, first served basis.
Participants will continue to be part of the band’s music industry journey with early invites to tours, the opportunity to join a gig buddy scheme, attendance at special events, and they’ll signpost you to music industry opportunities that are happening locally.
In support of the project, Loose Articles will be expanding LAFC via Discord—an inclusive fan club with exclusive merch, big days out, and a way for an expanding network of fans to get involved with the band.
The ‘Kick Like A Girl Extra Time!’ tour comes just before the band embark on a summer 2025 festival programme both in the UK and abroad.
Come down to a show and join the LAFC of strong, like-minded, music-obsessed people!

Musician, writer, photographer and performance artist, Lydia Lunch appeared on the New York music scene in 1977 with influential No Wave band, Teenage Jesus and the Jerks. In search of inspiration and cooperation she worked with James Chance, Karen Finley, Hubert Selby Jr, Nick Cave, William Burroughs & Virginie Despentes. She lived in New York, Brooklyn, New Orleans, San Francisco, Pittsburgh, Los Angeles, London & has visited 656 cities to perform on stage for concerts, spoken word, installations in clubs, theaters and museums.
Marc Hurtado is a musician, performer, poet, painter, producer and filmmaker who co-founded the French duo Etant Donnés with his brother Eric in 1977. He has made more than 20 albums and concerts around the world in places like Kitchen (New York), the Fondation Cartier (Paris), the Centre Pompidou (Paris), the Sonar Festival (Barcelona), the Atonal Festival (Berlin) & Transmusicales (Rennes). Apart from this duo and solo project Sol Ixent, he has collaborated with many cult figures including Alan Vega, Genesis P.Orridge, Michael Gira (Swans), Gabi Delgado (DAF), Craig Walker (Archive), Pascal Comelade, Z'ev, Philippe Grandrieux, Christophe, Saba Komossa (Delkom), Mark Cunningham (MARS), Bachir Attar and the Master Musicians of Jajouka.
Lydia Lunch & Marc Hurtado perform the music of SUICIDE and Alan Vega:
Lydia Lunch crossed paths with Alan Vega and Martin Rev when she arrived in New York aged 16 in the late 70’s. She saw them perform as Suicide: a collision of avant-garde performance art and minimalistic rock, that pre-dated punk by a number of years. Lunch has since described the performance as ‘a total show, theatrical, free, violent’. Since that initial meeting Lunch formed an enduring friendship and a creative partnership with Vega and Rev, performing on stage with Suicide and providing additional vocals on the legendary track ‘Frankie Teardrop’ which was part of the Suicide debut album, as well as duetting with Vega on ‘Prison Sacrifice’ which featured on the 2010 ‘Sniper’ album from Alan Vega & Marc Hurtado.
Marc Hurtado, had already met Alan Vega and Lydia Lunch on his Etant Donnés ‘RE-UP’ album in 1999 and formed the project My Lover The Killer in 2013 with Lydia Lunch, with whom they recorded an album and performed on stage. Since 2014 Lydia Lunch and Marc Hurtado join forces for this event around Suicide and Alan Vega songs... it will be a kind of sonic "Blitzkrieg" and a visual shamanic ceremony, where both artists will burn their souls in the volcanic heart of the music of Suicide and Alan Vega.

Established in 2019, the idea for Whingefest came up as a joke one night in The Ferret beer garden. And here it is. The 9th one! It's mainly an excuse for local band Whinge to play with some of their favourite bands, old friends, and new discoveries. But you lot can enjoy it too right? Plus, this edition is an extra-special Whingefest as it’s also the launch party for Whinge’s debut release “Something’s Not Quite Right” on Crackedankles Records. More about that later. In the meantime, check out this dead good lineup…
>>>>>>>>> THE DSM IV:
“Somewhere between The Stooges primal garage punk and Suicide's screeching futurism...blistering dance-punk” - CLASH
Formed in Liverpool in 2018 by former Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster frontman Guy McKnight, THE DSM IV crystallise the ultra real and the otherworldly, bringing a focused hyperrealism to the party. Their convention-defying live performances toy with audience expectations and stimulate questions of the narratives being sold to us as news—or entertainment—all to the beat of the drum machinist.
“Hardcore acid Scouse...McKnight still has the ability to summon demons and bewitch with his hoodoo” - Electronic Sound
As if pontificating from a lectern, McKnight sings and gesticulates like his life depends on it, his lyrics enticing or lacerating depending on the mood the band conjures. In an age of perversion of reality, justice and truth, THE DSM IV poetically reflect on our world’s hypocrisies and dilemmas, with danceability, intelligence, indignation, grace, style—refreshing purity for these polluted times.
New EP NEGATIVE UTOPIA is released 31st January 2025 via 9x9 Records.
“A swirling sinister slice of goth pop...dance floor-filling Sisters/Mission dry ice shenanigans” - Louder Than War
“A blend of The Fall, Suicide, Arthur Lee and acid house...dynamic and compelling” - The Quietus
linktr.ee/thedsmiv <<<<<<<<<
>>>>>>>>> MUMS:
“In the mutable realm of alternative music, where vibrancy clashes with cacophony and melodies flirt with dissonance, bands like Mums, rooted in the gritty landscape of Northwest England, show that longevity isn’t just about persistence—it’s about evolution.” - Idioteq
With their sound pushing its own boundaries, Mums drive deeper into the realm of thick riffs and earworm vocal lines, while ensuring the feedback always threatens to shatter speakers.
linktr.ee/Mumstheband <<<<<<<<<
>>>>>>>>> PILL FANGS:
Critically acclaimed songwriter Dan Haywood brings us Pill Fangs, channelling his love of New York 70s rock such as Lou Reed and Richard Hell. Haywood is joined by Lottie Baldwin on bass, Peek Freans on drums and Richard James Turner on synths, who produce a wonderfully jagged and amphetamine fuelled paranoid musical backdrop to the singer’s incisive, alienated vocals.
There is the slashing strung out guitar, the juddering drums pounding out like the drummer is trying to hit a fly on the skins, and the bass like a pacemaker going dangerously fast and worryingly slow. It’s the sound of too many late nights, not enough sleep, little daylight and the sense that the city is gonna get you in the end.
pillfangs.bandcamp.com <<<<<<<<<
>>>>>>>>> TV FACE:
The band called TV FACE are a gang-of-three from Lancaster. They are known for their ear-blistering and intense live shows, and described as “a wonderful trident of piercing guitar, bass and drums, unified by vocals through the torrent of hot noise, thunderous rumble and acid-scuzz” (Louder Than War). A classic three-piece, they have been compared to Mclusky, Brainiac, Minutemen. Gloriously, riotously, unashamedly angry, with a dash of indignation, and a soupçon of incredulity, their songs rage at the expectations of the keep-calm-and-carry-on-gang.
Their debut album Tide of Men was released September 2023 on Evil Blizzard’s label Crackedankles Records. It was named Louder Than War’s album of the week. The band are currently locked away in their hit factory in Morecambe writing material for their 2nd album, which they will record Spring 2025 and release on Crackedankles Records in September 2025. Two ltd ed lathe cut singles will be released in May and August.
linktr.ee/tvface <<<<<<<<<
>>>>>>>>> GAYLIPS:
The exact time that Gaylips was born has been forgotten. But, it might have been somewhere around the time when Carl and Jonny’s previous band imploded in its own Nu-Rave-neon-face-paint-please-like-us-NME bullshit which finally choked to death in the reduced section of Bedford Topman. But Carl and Jonny clambered out of the bargain bin, escaped the bad haircuts, and saw the glorious epiphany.
This is music with bayonets firmly fixed, a grenade rolled into a room, a final last hoorah before music is finally scarified at the altar of an AI algorithm.
gaylips1.bandcamp.com <<<<<<<<<
>>>>>>>>> MATERIAL GOODS:
Drawing inspiration from the likes of Nine Inch Nails, HEALTH, Deftones, IDLES, and How to Destroy Angels, Material Goods emerges as an electrifying blend of industrial electronic and post-punk influences.
linktr.ee/materialgoods <<<<<<<<<
>>>>>>>>> THOSE FKKKKKG SNOWFLAKES:
Jazzy Noisy Rocky Punky from Preston/Blackpool - released on Louder Than War Records and their own label ‘The Recording Industry Is Dead, Records’.
‘Those Fucking Snowflakes’ are a vibrant clash of left wing punk, noise rock and jazz tinged math, a band formed as a means to scream out the dread and horror faced in these terrible times of our modern society. From the current mess of the UK political system to the intolerance of, well, everything. From race and gender to such simple items as Greggs releasing a Vegan Sausage Roll, the band are shouting about it backed with a tight unique sound and occasional off kilter humour.
"Deploying 1000 volts through the civility of discourse."

>>>>>>>>> WHINGE:
Your hosts & “expert curators”.
Over to Crackedankles Records:
"We knew the members of Whinge by sight from our local venue The Ferret where, it would seem, at least one of Whinge was in at any given time. Their debut gig was a kaleidoscope of conflict & charm that was intimidating & hilarious in equal measures. But underneath the chaos were really memorable, witty & well crafted songs portraying a unique palette of influences & the best front person we'd seen in years."
WHINGE - SOMETHING'S NOT QUITE RIGHT
Debut album coming Feb 2025:
Whinge's debut album 'Something's Not Quite Right' is released on strictly limited edition vinyl & CD on Crackedankles Records, who have previously released Hotwax, Thank, Evil Blizzard, King Gizzard ATLW, TV Face, Hauspoints, Dead Things and more.
Preceded by the 7" single 'I Think I Found A Lump' - out in Jan - the album is released 7th February 2025.
As DIY as it comes, these first full length recordings were done in drummer Matt's mum's garage. "These sound great - I can't wait to hear you record them properly" the label said.
"These are proper. This is it".
Don't argue with Whinge.

Cavalera is one half of the DJ duo Mixhell, an electronic music project he founded with his wife, Laima Leyton, in 2006.
Iggor started playing drums at a very young age. In the first albums, his drumming was chaotic, following the thrash norms of the '80s. However, his innovative style in the album Chaos A.D. brought tribal elements into the songs. Cavalera has been widely recognised as a notoriously hard-hitting heavy drummer throughout his career. Although drumming has been his main activity since the ’80s, Iggor has always experimented with electronic instruments such as drum machines and synthesisers. He is also a music producer and experimental artist.
As Mixhell, he has toured the globe, performing in festivals such as Glastonbury, Bestival, and Reading. In 2013, Iggor moved to London with his family and, in 2016, joined the Belgian band Soulwax, recording drums for their album “From Deewee” and touring as part of “Transient Program for Drums and Machinery.” Soon after, he founded “Petbrick” with Wayne Adams - a project that involved melting noise and crushing electronics over grinding drumming.
In 2017, Iggor started building his personal studio with Laima by collecting gear and synthesisers and producing their own music, remixes, and soundtracks as well as collaborating with other artists. Around 2019, he started collecting modular synthesisers to compose ethereal, atmospheric, experimental drone music, to which he added rhythm through drum machines and live drums.
Iggor has been performing live with analogue modular gear, drum pads and visuals for intimate crowds at experimental festivals such as Dio Drone (Florence) and clubs such as Cafe Oto and Iklectik (London). His latest releases include “Aural Manifestations” on Damian Records in America and Deepthroat Records in Europe and “Alucinações Sônicas” on Hospital Productions.
And now he visits The Ferret for an amazingly intimate analogue modular show.

ROOK & THE RAVENS - Rook & The Ravens have toured far and wide, from Dublin in Ireland to Dublin in California, from Nashville Tennessee to Saltburn-by-the-Sea. Doing so they've kept a loyal fan base and remained proudly independent. "Their three-part harmonies are on par with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Newer songs rival Bends-era Radiohead and rock harder than early Queen. What other band can do all that and still sound at least as contemporary as Alt-J and Fleet Foxes?"
Corralled around the three-part harmony triumvirate of brothers Joe (guitar) and James Fay (lead guitar) with Tom Cartledge (keys, guitars), the quintet is completed by rhythm section David Brodie (bass guitar, keys, harmonica) and John Bernard Major (drums, percussion, keys).
For fans of melodic, hook-laden & Americana-laced indie rock, the band mould these sonic touchstones into a sound definably their own.
“Articulate, edgy, blistering and self-assured” – BBC Introducing
BEN & THE BELIEVERS - Led by singer-songwriter Ben Titley, Ben & The Believers craft introspective, heartfelt songs that resonate with listeners.
Their sound, a blend of indie rock with a personal edge, has made them a standout act in the live scene. Whether playing intimate shows or festival stages, Ben & The Believers always bring an emotional connection and a raw energy that captivates. Having steadily built a loyal following through their original sound and energetic performances, Ben & The Believers are poised to deliver an unforgettable live experience.
“A standout tuneful performance showcasing their original sound and rock ‘n’ roll energy” – Local Music Review

The Primevals: Stewart Lee has commissioned Glasgow's garage punk veterans to write a suitably haunting song for his new stand-up show 'Stewart Lee Vs The Man Wulf', which is currently on a long U.K tour. The band formed in 1983. Influenced by the MC5, The Stooges, Captain Beefheart, Pharoah Sanders, The Gun Club, The Cramps etc etc , and 1960s American garage rock, they continue to improve with age, like a fine single malt, and remain a resiliently brilliant live act.
The single features the A side "I'm The Man-Wulf" with an edited long version on the flip. The Primevals have always been a lot more than a bang it out garage rock band. Sure, they hit hard but behind the noise (of which there is a lot) is a fine and dare we say it cultured understanding of all the other great love sounds-of funk, soul, free jazz and a plain goddam groove!!

James King and the Lonewolves: Well known by those who know in Scotland, but criminally undiscovered almost everywhere else, James King and the Lonewolves combine classic Blues and Velvets tropes with a steely Television/Pere Ubu 70s proto punk vibe.
After the band had created a stir in early 80s Glasgow, Postcard supremo Alan Horne called upon The Lonewolves for his major label funded Swamplands imprint in the mid 80s. But due to a mix of bad luck and bad decisions the band did not get any further than one more flawless single.
They remained an enigma for the next 30 years until their debut LP 'Lost Songs of the Confederacy' finally landed in 2014. A second album 'The Mortality Arcade' appeared last year and the Lonewolves are currently firing on all cylinders. Do not miss this super rare opportunity to catch them south of the border.

-
Bhajan Bhoy: Ajay Saggar, who local and international gig goers will know from a string of previous successes in outfits such as Dandelion Adventure, Donkey, The Bent Moustache, King Champion Sounds and The Common Cold.
Now flying solo but with a massive box of effects pedals, Ajay creates psychedelic kosmiche raga electronic soundscapes. His recent LPs have been bucolic and blissed out, but live he is just as likely to stun you with improvised guitar heaviness.

-
Walter Mitty's Head: Another legendary outfit who were minted in the 1980s, Walter Mitty's Head rarely emerge from their East Lancashire garage, other than to accept the plaudits from their regular spot at the annual Colne Rhythm and Blues Festival. But when they do venture out, their fearsome frantic, full-sounding psychobilly with a punk/blues edge always makes new converts.
-
Palace Thieves: Post-punkers from Huddersfield and Leeds just about to unleash their debut album 'This is a True Story'

Lancashire legends Fenny and Lez will be manning the Ferret DJ booth and spinning 60's r'n'b in between the acts.

Alberta Cross were formed by Swedish-born lead singer and guitarist Petter Ericson Stakee and his London pal Terry Wolfers in the mid-00s. Their anthemic Americana-tinged songs possess a vulnerability and earthiness, and it soon showed in how hugely their debut record ‘The Thief & The Heartbreaker’ began to connect.
What followed was success on both sides of the Atlantic, and high-profile jaunts with Mumford & Sons, Portugal. The Man, Neil Young, Them Crooked Vultures (Dave Grohl, Josh Homme and John Paul Jones) and Rag N’ Bone Man.
2024 will see a reworked re-release of this album which will feature of wealth of musical collobarations such as Katie Melua, Jack Savoretti and Band of Skulls. Re-recorded in Frome, Somerset, at Ethan John and Dom Monks (Big Thief) Bert Jansch studio, the forthcoming release was self-produced by Alberta Cross vocalist Petter Ericson Stakee, and mastered at the hallowed Abbey Road Studios.
Seamus Mcloughlin - Seamus has cemented himself into local folklore with his excellent guitar play, immense vocal range and genuine on-stage charm. Live highlights include playing a set at SXSW festival in Texas and over the years he has gigged long and hard across the UK and USA.

“I view MUSIC as a major WEAPON in the BATTLEFIELD for PEACE of MIND in the world” – K.O.G
Kweku Sackey aka K.O.G (Kweku of Ghana) is a multi-dimensional creative force, combining exquisite writing skills with shamanistic live performance, fierce raps, perfectly on pitch singing across a massive vocal range and some absolutely wicked dance moves. Not to mention his skills as a percussionist, arranger, bandleader and art director. A true poet and storyteller, he uses a mix of English, Pidgin and Ga to paint sonic pictures that reach deep into the souls of everyone ready to listen.
“I love to make music that CONNECTS, REVIVES, EDUCATES and ENTERTAINS, drawing on the spiritual, physical, emotional and mental well being of us as individuals and our quest to maintain balance with the universe.”
Born in Accra, Ghana, to a nurse mother and marine engineer father who had studied in England, he grew up with a diverse range of international influences alongside Ghanaian styles: Tom Waits, Quincy Jones, Bob Marley, Sizzla, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Ebo Taylor, Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Atongo Simba, George Clinton, Pavarotti, Warsaw Village Band.
Resident for over 10 years in Sheffield, UK, music has taken him to perform on huge stages all over the world, from Glastonbury’s legendary West Holts stage to Fusion (Germany), Sauti Za Busara (Zanzibar), Kabardock (Reunion) and the Commonwealth Games (Gold Cost, Australia), winning the 2018 Young Commonwealth Performer and performing for Nelson Mandela’s family.
A prolific writer and collaborator, he needs a range of projects to showcase the different sides of his unique talent. He is the lead vocalist for afro-futurist project Onipa (Strut Records, Wormfood) and hi-life/hiphop/funk band K.O.G (Heavenly Sweetness), as well as collaborating extensively with Nubiyan Twist; his song ‘If I know’ off the Freedom Fables album (Strut) was performed live on Later with Jools Holland and A-playlisted on BBC6 Music.
Kweku is deeply aware of his heritage and of his role as an ambassador both through space and time, negotiating culturally both between African and Western influences and between the traditional and the modern: always open to new innovations and ideas while firmly rooted in a deep lineage.
This openness has informed recent collaborations with a wide wide range of producers and writers, including Léon Phal, Jembaa Groove, Zed Bias, iZem, Afriquoi, Congo Natty, Scrimshire, Dark Sky, Dizraeli, Chiminyo, Umoja and many more in the pipeline. Third album on French label Heavenly Sweetness, produced by master French producer Guts (Alliance Ethnik) and longtime friend and collaborator Tom Excell (Nubiyan Twist, Onipa), will drop September 2024.

PARTY CANNON are here to do three things; lower your IQ, get you hench, and raise your sex drive.
Formed in 2010 and hailing from Dunfermline, Scotland, PARTY CANNON have subjected most of the planet to a partying with their own unique brand of slamming brutal death metal they have coined as Party Slam. While infamous for their colourful logo and fun image, PARTY CANNON have proved they are no novelty act and have become well known for their wild inflatable-filled live shows and crowd antics (including the often imitated push-up pit) having played all over the UK, Europe, USA and Asia and on festivals such as SUMMER BREEZE, BAY AREA DEATH FEST, DAMNATION FESTIVAL and BRUTAL ASSAULT.
While the live show may be a party atmosphere, the band back it up with absolutely punishing music – crushing slam riffs, insane blastbeats and inhuman gutturals; music that is comparable to bands such as DEVOURMENT, GORGASM, DYING FETUS and GUTALAX.
The band's 2013 debut EP PARTIED IN HALF cemented their position as a leader of the UK metal scene is widely considered an iconic release in the slam death metal genre. PARTY CANNON's third and most recent album INJURIES ARE INEVITABLE was released in March 2024 via UNIQUE LEADER RECORDS and has been met with great acclaim from fans and critics, many considering it their best and most IQ lowering release to date. With new music on the horizon and a slew of live shows confirmed for 2025, there are no signs of the party stopping any time soon.
Get ready to experience the IQ lowering campaign and we'll see you in that slow moving circle pit.

Delving into impermanence, emotional disorientation and limerence, Oliver’s sound creates ‘the kind of storm that places a listener within a vacuum trapped between ethereal and existential' (Dylan Grinker, New Sounds).
A regular among London’s premier curated lineups at the George Tavern and Old Blue Last, and now sharing the stage with the likes of White Flowers, Swim School and Junodream, Oliver is a key agent of originality in the post-pandemic shoegaze revival.

No one was expecting the arrival of HOUSE Of ALL, a group comprised entirely of former members of The Fall: Martin Bramah (vocals, guitar), Pete Greenway (guitar), Paul Hanley (drums, vocals), Stephen Hanley (bass) and ‘Funky’ Si Wolstencroft (drums), Indeed, the first news of the group for most was an article in The Guardian about a ‘scandal’ caused by Martin’s (technically accurate) use of the phrase ‘a Fall family continuum’ to describe the band and its work, a piece which arrived in tandem with news of the group’s HOUSE Of ALL album, which sold by the bucketload and received tremendous praise from all corners.
A year later, CONTINUUM arrived, a long-player every bit as good as its predecessor. The boys toured behind each record, as well as enjoying the odd one-off gig here and there to satiate fan demand. After each studio albums, they released new fan-only compact disc / booklet packages loaded with live tracks, remixes and radio sessions.
The group’s original pledge to open to other members of The Fall family has been kept with the recent news of a third drummer, Karl Burns, who plays on their forthcoming third album, HOUSE Of ALL SOULS, as well as Phil Lewis filling in live for Pete on live dates and playing on the new album, too.
In perverse keeping with the band’s dark impulses, HOUSE Of ALL SOULS will be released on Valentine’s Day, 2025 . . . precisely a month before the band sets off on a series of live dates designed to surprise and inspire.
A valentine for black hearts! An electric array of magic sounds!

Formed in Macclesfield, England, by Ally Dickaty and Danny Dolan, the band initially gained prominence in 2013 with their debut album "King of Conflict", which debuted #3 on the Billboard New Artist Alternative Chart and #8 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart.
They have brought their highly charged live show extensively throughout the UK, Europe, USA, and Japan, supporting artists such as Queens of the Stone Age, Shinedown, Slash and the Sisters Of Mercy.
Their music is characterised by powerful guitar riffs, vigorous drumming, and emotive, gritty vocals, often featuring thought-provoking and passionate lyrics, tackling personal struggles to social and political themes.
Their sound, both melodic and aggressive, has a sense of rebellion and sincerity that resonates with their audience. This combination of hard-hitting music and meaningful lyrics has earned them a dedicated fan base and critical acclaim in the rock music scene. 2024 will see the release of a brand new studio album supported by a full UK & European headline tour.

Crackedankles Weekend
CRACKEDANKLES WEEKEND
The Ferret, Preston.
Friday 02 May 2025 - Saturday 03 May 2025
Crackedankles Records resides in the hot bed of the Ribble Delta that is Preston, Lancashire. Home of some amazing bands over the years that perhaps never got the breaks they would if they were in our neighbouring Manchester or Liverpool.
Crackedankles was set up primarily as an outlet for releases by Evil Blizzard, but quickly developed into releasing music by fellow idiots.
And now for the first time, Crackedankles Weekend takes place next May Bank Holiday, Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd May at the best venue in the land: The Ferret - when most of the bands Crackedankles have had the pleasure of working with will appear in one massive sesh…
To buy tickets for this event please visit our events page: Crackedankles Weekend tickets from Skiddle .
Join us for two days of Crackedankles Records shaped jollities. Featuring most of the bands that have released through the label, including Evil Blizzard and many many more.

SATURDAY - doors open 4pm:

FRIDAY BANDS INFO:
SUGARSTONE:
They played Glastonferret this year, and I've never seen a band demolish a crowd so quickly. They're local lads, so we've seen them before... but they spent 12 months playing around the country and boy; have they toughened up!
We're releasing their debut album to coincide with the weekend; more news about that release closer to the time. If anyone's going to steal the show that weekend, it'll be these lads. Miss them at your peril.
YAANG:
Friday sees Manc ruffians YAANG whose debut vinyl release ‘NO!’ is due in February.
WHINGE:
On the Friday we see the mighty Whinge. 'But they aren't on Crackedankles?' I hear you yell over the rooftops; well - they are now!
Chuffed to announce that their debut single and album 'Something's Not Quite Right' will be released in Jan/Feb 2025. Pre orders for this go live on Friday 6th Dec.
DEAD THINGS:
Also on Friday are Dead Things who have an 8 (yes, eight!!) inch EP out soon. They’re doing a special one-off 2-piece performance just for this weekend.
SATURDAY BANDS INFO:
EVIL BLIZZARD:
Crackedankles is their record label, so of course Evil Blizzard will appear! Evil Blizzard at The Ferret is always a big one. Last time they were here it was to headline Glastonferret 2023, before that they sold out 2 nights in a row to Save The Ferret.
MICHAEL:
The one and only MICHAEL who, coincidentally, just got a rave 8/10 review of their recent album in Vive Le Rock Magazine.
They’ll be making a noise and annoying/enthralling everyone on the Saturday.
THEE ALCOHOLICS:
Saturday just got a whole lot noisier with the addition of Thee Alcoholics - the only band on the bill that aren’t with Crackedankles (they’re on the excellent Rocket Recordings), but they’re ace and come hand in hand with their London pals Chum and Michael, and we’re too scared to say no.
POLYPORES:
Chuffed beyond words about TWO announcements.
I’ve been a huge, huge fan of Polypores since its very first inception, and have repeatedly hassled Stephen when I’m drunk about letting us release one of his albums.
We’ve finally beaten him down, and we will be releasing the new album ‘Cosmically A Shambles’ in conjunction of the Weekender gig at The Ferret.
Yes - we’re releasing a LOAD of new music next year.
Yes; we’re moving away from the ‘usual’ noisy Crackedankles stuff, but we all have varied record collections, and want the label to reflect this.
So - all hail Polypores. Marvellous stuff.
CHUM:
South London via Outer Space CHUM play on the Saturday.
Their debut album ‘Metaphysical’ was released a couple of years ago (less than 20 copies left on vinyl!) and this will be their first gig north of London ever.
They describe themselves as ‘Retrospective Prognosticators, Mindless Psychoanalysts, Charlatan Ritualists. Follow them, Join them, Stop them...only you can decide.’
They feature:
Marvin Gardens, Randy Burns, Johnny Utah, Sweet Pudding and Tomas.
They’re brilliant.
Buy their album on vinyl or cassette here:
https://chumandchum.bandcamp.com/album/metaphysical-2
TV FACE:
The mighty TV FACE, whose debut album came out just over a year ago - copies of this are running low on vinyl, so if you haven't got one, then don't hang about.
ZD GRAFTERS:
The incredible & hellishly acerbic Brum Noise Jazz outfit ZD Grafters. We often get asked by Evil Blizzard what ex-member Kav is up to. He's still making a racket, these days with his incredibly talented son Zac on drums.
'But ZD Grafters aren't on Crackedankles?' I hear you say. Well - they are now! Their debut vinyl release 'Three Little Birds' is going on pre-order on Fri 6th Dec.
EMPTY CUT:
Joining us on Saturday is the first non-Crackedankles band: Empty Cut from Birmingham, who are ace.
---
There will be 1 more ‘turn’ added to Friday night, just finalising a few things. These will be added later for various reasons.

Cassidy Paris returns to The Ferret! After an amazing Preston Debut last year we had to bring her back all the way from Down Under.
Australian rocker Cassidy Paris and her band have a very bright future ahead of them. Raised on classic hard rock and inspired by female rockers such as Lzzy Hale, Joan Jett, Pink, Pat Benatar & Avril Lavigne, the fiercely determined young band are on a mission to inspire a new generation of younger fans to not only listen to Rock ‘n’ Roll, but pick up a guitar instead of a phone. Since the beginning, Cassidy has released two sold out eps – 'Broken Hearted' & 'Flirt', and the first full length record "New Sensation" was released via Frontiers Music Srl in December 2023.
Her talents have not gone unnoticed by one of the major guitar giants Fender, lending their support by joining forces with Cassidy to bring her on as an endorsee of Fender Guitars. Cassidy has also recently secured an endorsement with Wornstar Clothing. 2022 saw the Cassidy Paris Band tour Australia with the likes of John Corabi & H.E.A.T, along with a 12 date UK tour. In 2023, Cassidy Paris became the youngest artist to ever sign a record deal with Frontiers Music SRL. She released her debut album 'New Sensation' in December to rave reviews, many including the debut in their Top 10 Albums Of The Year.
Cassidy launched the album by touring the UK with her band for a second time to packed rooms at WinterStorm in Scotland, Planet Rockstock in Wales and a number of club dates in England.
The band are very excited to have recently signed with SD Entertainment, who will now be exclusively representing them as their booking agent in the UK, Ireland & Europe.
Cassidy Paris and her band kicked the year off with a bang, playing a sold out hometown album launch show, appearing at Glam Fest Australia and announcing their first ever headline tour of the UK, including an appearance at Steelhouse Festival.
Cassidy Paris are the next generation of ROCK!

A new home for Preston Scratch Band
The communal music-making session known as Preston Scratch Band will soon be meeting in its new home at The Ferret.
The group gathers on occasional Saturdays to sing and play pop songs using provided music books. Led from the keyboard by Jon Aveyard of Preston Music Workshops, participants borrow hand percussion or bring along their ukuleles, guitars, violins and whatever other instruments they would like to play. Some of the participants instead sing along and can make use of the wireless microphones if they want to make sure they are heard.
The group first met in the UCLan Media Factory but for the past two years had been gathering in The Larder. Now that The Larder has closed its doors for the final time, the group is moving to The Ferret following a successful one-off visit as part of last year’s Lancashire Encounter festival.
“We are grateful to The Larder for hosting us these past few years but now we’re looking forward to the next stage in the life of the Preston Scratch Band,” says Jon. “The Ferret is undoubtedly one of Preston’s most important music venues and it’s a privilege to meet there to play.”
Unlike most groups that perform at The Ferret, there is no expectation of being at a professional standard. “There’s no audience at a Preston Scratch Band session. Everyone who attends takes part in every song even if they’re just quietly singing along or shaking a tambourine. It’s a gathering of people willing to throw themselves into singing and playing and accepting whatever is brought to the session by the other participants.”

“[Sweet Leaf of The North] my favourite song of the last decade” Iggy Pop
Mik Artistik's Ego Trip are genuinely delightful, funny, frightening, and indefinable. Northern rock and roll stand-up comes close.
Mik fixes the audience with his compelling stare, hypnotising and charming them with stories, songs, and poems. Every show is unique as Mik finds a new train of thought to ride. He connects, chats, breaks the wall between audience and band, creates chaos, plays air-crook lock (!?), and is complimented by exquisite layers of rock, soul, funk, and punk created by Jonny Flockton on electric guitar, drum machine, and one of a number of well-heeled bass players.
The band are regular Glastonbury favourites since their first appearance in 2007. Many fans don't consider Glastonbury has started until they've attended either Mik’s gig on the Wednesday afternoon at the Croissant Neuf Bandstand, or the chaos that reigns at Thursday evening’s Rocket Lounge gig. Both are now Glastonbury traditions for many fans.
They have achieved an enviable reputation at many of the major UK festivals, including Latitude, Bearded Theory, Beat Herder, Wilderness, and Beautiful Days.
BBC Radio 6Music have long been playing Mik’s music with Gideon Coe, Chris Hawkins, Shaun Keaveny and Tom Robinson all big fans of the band.
In early 2020 no-less than rock icon and 6Music presenter Iggy Pop endorsed Mik’s anthem of hope ‘Sweet Leaf of the North’ as his favourite song of the last DECADE! ... In his words "… because it's human, it's real and it has soul“
"Best live band I have seen all summer” Gideon Coe
"My favourite band on the planet" Martin Parr
MASTERS OF THE SCENE: A NSFW acoustic comedy duo. Mixing country, folk, pop and rock genres with Noel Coward-esque wordplay to create hilarious cautionary tales, this eclectic pair are bringing sexy back to the acoustic guitar!

The Zawose Queens are Leah and Pendo Zawose of the Tanzanian Wagogo people, whose joyous otherworldly vocals and polyphonic rhythms deftly blend the acoustic, electronic, traditional and modern.
There is spirit and fire in the music of The Zawose Queens. There’s the vibrations of the ancestors, coming through on traditional instruments — soaring chizeze fiddle, buzzing illimba thumb piano, ngoma drums that chatter and thunder — and voices that go deep, high and out there. There’s the connection to nature, to ceremony and ritual, in their dance-inspired fusion, their blend of the organic, harmonic and modern-day electronic. There are lyrics that tell, in their native kigogo, of the passion for music, the wonders of life. Of pride in environment, in tradition. In their East African roots.
Pendo and Leah Zawose showcase the fluid polyrhythms and rapturous polyphonic singing of the Gogo (aka Wagogo) people of the arid, hilly Dodoma region of central Tanzania. The most famous exponent of this musical tradition is the late, great Dr Hukwe Zawose (Pendo’s father and Leah’s grandfather).
Maisha, the debut album by The Zawose Queens (on Peter Gabriel’s Real World Records), marks the first time that women from this famous musical family take their place as lead vocalists and performers. Emboldened by workshops in songwriting and music production with visiting UK-based producers Oli Barton-Wood (Jordan Rakei, Obongjayar, Nilufer Yanya) and Tom Excell (Nubiyan Twist, Onipa), The Zawose Queens began writing their first ever songs. The resulting collection of songs range from the stripped back and traditional-sounding to those treated with subtle electronic elements, with beats and drops and found sounds and switch-ups.

The Ferret, Preston.
Dreadnought’s debut album ‘fatal flaw’ will be launching 17th of January with a mega party here at #TheFerret alongside some very talented guests!
The new album will be played it in its entirety with some previous bangers for the strongest set Dreadnought’s put together since beginning this musical journey.
“It’s taken many years to refine, re write, scrap old songs, make new ones. It’s literally been a case of blood and tears. But the launch is finally ahead and it’d mean absolutely everything to share this with you all going into 2025.”
Dreadnought will be joined by some ultra talent, with 4 support acts! Fellow NDC members N0trixx with her intense, entirely unique and powerful blend of industrial nu-metal and infectious grooves and FMA + 12 gage with their duo tongue splitting lyrics and big booming genre bending beats.
As well as Dreadnought’s right hand gang, they bring back part of their collective with the gang in Stray Weather, with their contagious energetic flows that ooze personality, so get them human triangle formations practiced!
Last but certainly not least their good friends all the way from Barrow - Eternal Autumn, with their own flavour of tasty melodies, riffs and walls of sound that will have your body moving whether you want to or not.
“We are all prepping to tear up the stage as we speak and really hope you can join us for some moshing, laughing, dancing and marking our place in the scene! It’s gonna be a treat.”

I can't believe this is happening as well as us celebrating our 2nd birthday. It all began with this night and we are so excited to bring it again with the best line up of local talent...
ALCHEMIZE - SPECIAL HEADLINE SET
Alchemize return to Elder Emo UK after their first appearance with us earlier this year at Emotional Damage Festival and they have stampeded through the local scene and beyond! For a band who have been together for such a short time they have featured on BBC Introducing, Kerrang, song collabed with InRetrospect and just announced their support tour with Polar. So now they are ready for their big moment making Elder Emo Ball 3 their first ever headline show which we are honoured to be.
VICES
Another band who has made their mark in a short time together! VICES bring something to the stage which is unmatched and we are so honoured to have them back again with Elder Emo UK now they are spreading their wings across the country in multiple venues and festivals. Their last show with us & Madhouse Promotions they supported HAWXX, featured on BBC Introducing and other local radio stations and now finish an amazing year back home.
DAD BODZ
Both Vices & Dad Bodz were born from ALL FILLER, NO KILLER the former tribute band all the way back from our first ball (and second ball) and thank the Emo God's both bands happened! Dad Bodz are literally Elder Emo in music form giving us early 2000's pop punk written by men in their mid 30's. The boys have 4 incredible tracks and can't wait to see them back in action and what surprises they have in stall this night!
AFTERPARTY
Yours truly (DJ Connie Von D) will be jumping on the decks after our bands to carry on the night! Even though I will be saying some words on the night I just want to thank you all for making this happen for the third time as well as all our gigs throughout the year. I now get to do this as my full time job and it is not even a job to me - It is my passion to ensure people let loose and have a good time so again - Thank You 🖤

WHINGE:
Crackedankles Records: "We knew the members of Whinge by sight from our local venue The Ferret where, it would seem, at least one of Whinge was in at any given time.
Their debut gig was a kaleidoscope of conflict and charm that was intimidating and hilarious in equal measures. But underneath the chaos were really memorable, witty and well crafted songs portraying a unique palette of influences and the best front person we'd seen in years. With darts.
Fuelled by nihilism and a playful eye for self deprecation, one pub conversation too many saw their myriad of musical backgrounds combine with their unpredictable approach to life, with the end result: ‘Whinge'. Like the best bands; more a gang than a group.”
Their debut album ‘Something’s Not Quite Right’ is released on strictly limited edition vinyl & CD on Crackedankles Records, who have previously released Hotwax, Thank, Evil Blizzard, King Gizzard ATLW and more.
As DIY as it comes, these first full length recordings were done in drummer Matt's mum's garage.
"These sound great - I can't wait to hear you record them properly" the label said.
"These are proper. This is it".
Don't argue with Whinge.
Something's not quite right.
“Absolutely amazing - strap yourself in!” - BEYOND RADIO
BABOON:
That Preston band in masks. No, the other one. From sea shanties to glam-rock synth freak-outs, covering bigamy and avian conflict, Baboon went out with a bang in 2013 then stumbled out into the light reformed in 2018. Here they are in all their glory. Where's the beef?

ELOHYMN
https://www.facebook.com/100064652186861
Elohymn (from Chorley) are back with a bang after a long hiatus. They have reformed their original lineup and will be performing the first EP they ever released in full on the night. Underneath the technical riffs and beats are robot noises and subliminal sonic subtexts. Charging this attack are subtle but essential effects, that shift the pitch and cause sequenced delays, all of which enhances an already spectacularly grand sound. The flipside sound reveals a blossoming anthemic and ethereal 21st Century post rock outlook, that’s captured in the cascading themes, loops and eloquent guitar lines. Elohymn don't have to rely on big chords. Instead they can snap out quick multibeat passages, punctuated with millisecond pauses which lead into the next ascending or descent led theme. The trio create something of a conceptual set, with the backing tracks and consistent, connecting strands. The numbers of course become gigantic by the end, elevating the audience on something of a sonic mountain climb - with such altitude, comes the very best of views.
CAT CALLED DOG
https://www.facebook.com/CatCalledDog
Cat Called Dog (from Skelmersdale) are another act who've been away from the live scene for a number of years. But they are coming out to play this Xmas! There is a distinct fuzzy reality of stepping into Cat Called Dogs world; it's a soothing reassurance of natural blood-pumping, lug-hole piercing, raw-rock that grabs you by the curlies and demands attention.
THE CITIES
https://www.facebook.com/thecities
The Cities (from Preston) are a sonic rebellion clad in skinny jeans, echoing the untamed spirit of rock ‘n’ roll. With every strum, drum, and bass thump, they channel the raw energy of the legendary Joe Kanger. The Cities are not just a band; they’re a thunderous force, where the drums and bass form the unyielding backbone, driving the rhythm into the heart of the listener.
FIRSTNAMEFRANK

Blues Harvest will once again be transforming Preston into a wretched hive of scum and villainy this December as they bring their 'BLUES HARVEST HOLIDAY SPECIAL' to The Ferret!
Blues Harvest are a pop culture party band who have been delighting audiences at comic-cons, space centres and cantinas across the galaxy for over a decade.
Adapting their name from ‘Blue Harvest’ (the fake working title used to hide the 1982 production of Return of the Jedi) the band first performed their blend of geek culture with movie themes and popular hits to an audience of Star Wars fans and celebrities at a convention in 2013, and since then have built up a most impressive reputation as the go-to party band for geek events.
The UK based six-piece consists of Darth Paul (vocals & percussion), Lapti Nik (guitar & vocals), Ad Bane (guitar & backing vocals), Androo-Detoo (keyboards & backing vocals), Bass Windu (bass guitar) and Andylorian (drums & backing vocals). This talented sextet effortlessly fuse geek culture, nostalgia and energetic performances at their memorable live shows, blending their musical influences with fandom culture to result in an uplifting set of timeless movie bangers (Power of Love, Ghostbusters, Flash, Footloose), movie and TV soundtracks (Star Wars, The Mandalorian, Doctor Who, Red Dwarf), 70s awesome mixtape highlights (Hooked on a Feeling, Mr Blue Sky) and plenty of surprises along the way. Their live shows are a multimedia feast, with movie and TV footage being projected along with the music, evoking a nostalgic and crowd-pleasing experience.
“Magnificent! The lyrics, performance and John Williams’ theme fade-out: PERFECTION.” – Mark Hamill
“Blues Harvest rocks!” – Ray Parker Jr
“What a din.” – Warwick Davis
Inspired by franchises such as Star Wars, Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, Guardians of the Galaxy and many more, Blues Harvest is the perfect cantina band to celebrate the sci-fi, comics and fantasy genres.
Appearing alongside Blues Harvest will be special guests Barry Gammon + Fitzsy!
