BABA ALI:

Recognised as one of the most electrifying new acts to emerge from the UK in recent years, Baba Ali is the combined force of American performer and musician Baba Doherty and British guitarist Nik Balchin.

Following the release of their debut Memory Device in 2021 and 18 months of touring, Baba Ali return with one foot firmly placed on the dance floor, and the other in a state of frenzy. The bold and fiery lead single Burn Me Out from their sophomore album Laugh Like A Bomb, serves as a blueprint for what the duo call their ‘electro punk disco’ sound and was premiered by Lauren Laverne on BBC 6 Music.

Having previously collaborated with Al Doyle (LCD Soundsystem / Hot Chip) on their debut album, this time the duo absconded to Doyle’s studio in his own touring absence and took to production duties themselves. Laugh Like A Bomb was recorded in just three weeks before being mixed by Sheffield producer Ross Orton (Working Men's Club / M.I.A. / Yard Act).

Onstage, Baba Ali is a captivating and seductive presence, transmitting a wall of sound that fills the room with an infectious raw energy and groove that makes standing still impossible.

YAANG:

Forming in 2017 when Davey Moore (vocals/sampler) met Oliver Duffy (Guitars/vocals) at a rhythmic awareness class at the University of Salford - and later completed by Ben White (Ex-Working Men’s Club) on bass duties - the trio have steadily built their reputation for furious, high-energy, live shows, powered by the rocket-fuel combo of pulsating drum loops, clangorous guitars and a wicked sense of humour.

Jean Genie's Massive Hugs:

"The magically spirit affecting, songs of Jean Genie" (Monthly Planet)

Jean Genie brought us the incredible song "Ray of Hope (Ferret Forever)" to support our Save The Ferret fundraising - "What a song!" (John Kennedy, Radio X). A Ferret legend in the house for one night only.

---

Plus, some very special guests & super secret surprises throughout the night.

AND a mega after party with our boy Telstar at the controls.

ROOK & THE RAVENS

https://www.facebook.com/rookandtheravens/

Rook & The Ravens have toured far and wide, from Dublin in Ireland to Dublin in California, from Nashville Tennessee to Saltburn-by-the-Sea. Doing so they've kept a loyal fan base and remained proudly independent. "Their three-part harmonies are on par with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Newer songs rival Bends-era Radiohead and rock harder than early Queen. What other band can do all that and still sound at least as contemporary as Alt-J and Fleet Foxes?"

UHR

https://uhr-fyi.bandcamp.com/

Uhr describe themselves as "Antifreeze to the windshield of your heart, a bag full of children's wishes thrown into an incinerator made of bulls." In other words, they are dead good!

AHMED & THE ROMANS

https://www.facebook.com/ahmedandtheromans/

The son of the Egyptian James Brown and 3 Italians pieced together from the bowels of the old empire. A real treat, a real sonic treat to bite into.

HOUSE OF WOLVES

https://www.facebook.com/HouseOfWolvesTheBand

House of Wolves embody the classic rock style that has evolved since the late 70s. They do it in such a way that isn’t a mimicking or rehashing of that classic style.

FIRSTNAMEFRANK

https://firstnamefrank.bandcamp.com/

A man, a piano & some great songs: FirstnameFrank. He delighted The Ferret crowd at the recent Badly Drawn Boy show with a sublime support set of superlative song writing.

From early til late we will also have the marvellous Hazel playing tunes for your ears. Expect a mix of grunge, rock, blues, psychedelic rock and other things e.g. The Sheepdogs, Wooden Shjips, Faith No More, Neil Young, Wolf People, DEVO, Queens of the Stone Age, Mad Season, Mark Lanegan, Kurt Vile, Freddie King, etc.

HEAVY SALAD:

Heavy Salad create a melting pot of highly melodic, psychedelic music infused with the bands eclectic love of surf rock, electro-pop, fuzzed up punk funk and cosmic gospel-tinged folk.

Formed in Manchester by Lee Mann (live bassist with The Moonlandingz), Rob Glennie on guitar and Allan Hutchison on drums, the band quickly expanded with the addition of 'The Priestesses' Ally Boo, Esther and Lucy adding their unique and soulful vocals to the mix with Oscar Remers-Tootle completing the line up on guitar / vocals /synth.

Heavy Salad have now finished work on their second LP recorded with producers Christophe Bride in Manchester and in London with Stephen Street (Blur / The Smiths). Working with cult Manchester artist Stan Chow the band released 3 brand new singles in 2022 with the album dropping in Spring 2023.

Heavy Salad works in the space between perceived reality and the abyss of your mind...

PYNCHER:

pyncher are the very best of the Manchester underground, moody and playful post punk that's begun to delight ears nationwide.
This radio 6 featured outfit brings to life Ennio Morricone riffs and twangs with their new EP Chew receiving praise from NME and beyond. Having only been gigging for a year, this young band have shot themselves into the limelight of the Manchester music scene, and are starting to make a name for themselves in London as well, after being invited by Damien Hirst to play The Troubador.

HAPPY ATHLETIC:

Self-driven, Self-funded and self-deprecating. Happy Athletic is a four-piece alternative indie band formed in the north west of England. Drawing inspiration predominantly from American indie bands. Blending tear in your beer lyrics with jangly guitar riffs that propulsively drives their songcraft.

RUDE FILMS:

From Manchester. Rude Films' dreary, melancholic sound is a sonic reflection of their bleak surroundings.

WYRES

https://www.facebook.com/wearewyres

Wyres are a melodic punk rock four-piece wth Myspace-era vibes (featuring former members of Preston band "Failsafe"). Formed at the worst time in history to start a band (March 2020), song ideas flew back and forth over WhatsApp during lockdowns - with 24 home-recorded demos emerging. The aim was to capture a sound that's melodic punk at heart while still raw around the edges - in the vein of Hot Water Music, Rise Against, Alkaline Trio, Bayside, and Beatsteaks. Members of the band also played in Failsafe. They released debut single "CIRCLES" in early 2022 and have a new EP "Northern Lights" out in 2023.

BUILDING GIANTS

https://www.facebook.com/BuildingGiantsOfficial

Building Giants have attracted a loyal fanbase in the North and used the covid era as an opportunity to take a step back, recalibrate, modernise and transform their sound, working with Grammy award winning producer, Adrian Bushby, to bring a whole host of new noises to the masses in Winter 2022. The first new single 'Computer Rebuter' has been streamed over 100,000 times on Spotify alone.

SKY VALLEY MISTRESS

https://www.facebook.com/skyvalleymistress

Sky Valley Mistress finally return to the stage to break it down again. Like an adrenaline shot in the hands of John Travolta, Sky Valley Mistress' line up has been slicked back and is more potent and concentrated than it ever was. Ready to hit you in the chest with a sound that will make you feel electrified, sexualised and spiritualised, there won't be any let up from this celestial comedown. With a revived set of alternate arrangements and fresh jams, Sky Valley Mistress are ready to walk among mortals once more.

BLOODMERIDIAN

https://www.facebook.com/bloodmeridianuk

Bloodmeridian are a heavy rock band with a recently released debut album titled "This Is What Dying Is" featuring members from former bands March and Sometime The Wolf.

TIN GODS

Opening the night we have special guests and local legends Tin Gods: an indie rock band who dominated the 90’s with their catchy melodies. After a 15 year hiatus they have reformed with some new songs to bring to the party for this final HED fundraiser.

THE BATTERY FARM

Furious-maudlin-sardonic punk-tinged shitstorm from the North of England. A Gutter Punk four-piece from Manchester playing visceral, punishing music. A guttural cry against a violent world, whose songs are borne of that violence. Life's a battery farm. It's a sick, sick world.

LEFT

With songs about Snapchat filters, narcissism, toxic masculinity, Piers Morgan and, er, terrifying children with the image of hell, LEFT, described as “noisy buggers” by those who’ve seen them, bring a chaotic show every time they play.

IDLE HOURS

Heavily influenced by the likes of Blur and Ulrika Spacek, Manchester's Idle Hours' garage rock sensibilities have already culminated in slots alongside acts including The Lounge Society, Keg, The Rills and Silverbacks, with several of their own sold-out hometown shows ticked off.

MOBY DICKLESS

Laced with unchained harmonies and vivid story telling, Moby Dickless are a band set on breaking the mould. Gigging on the Manchester circuit, the trio have established a reputable, highly energetic and immersive live performance in which they challenge the very definition of genre. Their previous two releases have explored a bold blend of Jazz, Punk and Trip-Hop with future endeavours promising to push the boundaries further than ever before

RED CLOGS

Three piece rock band from Wigan. Debut EP 'Graft' available on all streaming platforms.

DUBINSKI // REVIVALRY // WINO // Picture Nova - A #SaveTheFerret Fundraiser

Coming to The Ferret this March,

DUBINSKI

with special guests REVIVALRY + WINO + PICTURE NOVA

Fri 10th March from 7pm

The Ferret, Preston

---

The bonds that hold Dubinski in place are unbreakable. Four brothers who’ve literally been through everything together - from childhood through adolescence, success and grief – using music as the gel to hold them in place. Brought up in rural Scotland - Glenlivet in Speyside, to be precise - but with deep roots in North Yorkshire, their songs could only come from a place of complete trust, shared adventure, and total abandon. And the musical result of this familial experience: it’s rock meets pop, delivered in a manner that’s uniquely theirs - high energy bangers interspersed with introspective repose, all delivered with electronic production in an organic setting. Dubinski are making 21st century anthems, and it’s time for the world to listen.

To buy tickets for this event please visit our events page: DUBINSKI - 10th March, 2023 tickets from Skiddle.

Ticket sales powered by Skiddle

Taken as a whole, Dubinski’s debut album is a shattering, cathartic experience. It’s a record fueled by brotherhood and trust, by loss and the empowering impact of communal emotion. More than anything else, it’s a launching point, a marker of the sheer will that has dragged Dubinski from the Highlands of Scotland out into the bigger world. “I sometimes wonder what the hell we would be doing if we didn't have a band,” Eoin muses. “It’s the umbilical cord that keeps us all together.”

REVIVALRY

Revivalry are an indie rock band with members from Louth and Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire, UK. They burst onto the local scene in 2019 with their original track “Bullet.

The band cite the main influencers for their own music as Arctic Monkeys as well as Welsh Indie Rockers, Catfish and the Bottlemen.

WINO

Singer songwriter, producer and multi instrumentalist from the North of England, Bradford. Having played in bands for most of his life, most notably the band FLING. Jack became more involved in bedroom producing with the help of synths and drum machines.

PICTURE NOVA

Picturenova are a new wave indie rock band based in Manchester. Songs of head bops and mosh pits. With; Vocals/Rhythm: Arthur Baker, Lead Guitar: Daneel Selley, Bass: Callum Smith, Drums: Brad Hughes, are Picturenova.

CUT (from Italy)

https://www.facebook.com/SoundofCUT

Italians "Cut" play a dark, groove-filled brand of garage noise rock that brings The Fall and The Stooges to mind in equal measure. Every song is a riotous adrenaline-sodden rocker in which Cut leave not one second unfulfilled or unexplored. This is rock music to be savoured and can be described as "John Lee Hooker stuck in a post-punk straitjacket".

BABOON

https://www.facebook.com/lookatbaboon

That Preston band in masks. No, the other one. From sea shanties to glam-rock synth freak-outs, covering bigamy and avian conflict, Baboon went out with a bang in 2013 then stumbled out into the light reformed in 2018. Here they are in all their glory. Where's the beef?

AHMED & THE ROMANS

The son of the Egyptian James Brown and 3 Italians pieced together from the bowels of the old empire. A real treat, a real sonic treat to bite into.

https://www.facebook.com/ahmedandtheromans

THE JACKPOT GOLDEN BOYS

https://www.facebook.com/JackpotGoldenBoys

The Jackpot Golden Boys are infectious, uplifting and bursting with melodies and have been a much loved local act for many years. They have previously undertaken large scale tours of USA & Europe supporting Epic Rap Battles Of History. With Alex, Jim and Mike you can always expect the unexpected.

ZVILNIK

https://www.facebook.com/zvilnik

Zvilnik are a sci-fi prog surf cabaret rock band, who draw in influences from Eastern Europe, the West End and low grade horror movies to create a sound like no other. Expect weird science, unnecessary surgery, robots, dinosaurs, and more in a Zvilnik show.

POLYPORES

https://www.facebook.com/polypores
Polypores (aka Stephen James Buckley) paints music with a modular synthesizer, drawing influence from ambient, new age, and experimental electronics. It soars, bubbles, crackles, and soothes, in ever-shifting, immersive cosmic landscapes. Dream environments and sonic sculptures.

The Ferret presents a #SaveTheFerret Fundraiser gig with North West Indie-Pop/Rock bands The Forensics, County Pilots, The Outerlines & The Cases.

THE FORENSICS:

THE FORENSICS are a four-piece indie-pop band from Lancashire. Despite the shadow cast by an incredible lineage of bands from neighboring cities Manchester and Liverpool, the band plan to carve out their own path and put Lancashire firmly on the map.

Since the formation of the band in late '21, they've gained a loyal following and supported some of the country's best up-and-coming bands who have landed in their home county.

First single 'Change My Mind' turned heads immediately and has captured an audience eager for more. With new music landing soon, this is one band to keep an eye on.

COUNTY PILOTS:

With the sound of the 60s running through their veins, COUNTY PILOTS are hitting the northwest of England with something it’s been craving for years.

The band’s debut single ‘Burning’ is just over 2 minutes of pure joy. It’s upbeat, new and exciting, but with a kinda familiar aftertaste. Don’t be surprised if you catch yourself humming Pilots songs in the shower after you’ve seen them live; that tends to happen!

THE OUTER LINES:

THOMAS TRUAX

https://www.thomastruax.com
Thomas Truax travels the world singing into a contraption he invented called ‘The Hornicator’. Constructed on the shell of a junk gramophone horn it resembles something that might have been dreamt up by Dr. Seuss. He taps out live rhythm loops, plucks assorted strings, springs and attached noisemakers, building a backdrop of layered hypnotic sounds on top of which come some of the most striking stories about clones, butterflies, dogs, technology, loneliness, and other beautiful and sad things. Splendid magazine called him “one of the five or ten best singer/songwriters in the world that you’ve never heard of…an exceptional talent, unique and resistant to comparison, yet fairly accessible even to casual listeners.

FILTHYDIRTY

https://filthydirty.bandcamp.com/releases

"The glammed up weirdo FilthDirty (from Evil Blizzard) gets a bit bored, finds some unreleased Blizz tracks that didn’t quite work at the time, fucks around with them a bit, dusts off his bass / electric drum kit and finds his way around some mental abrasive sound that blasts it way well over eleven."

GRANFALLOON

https://granfalloonmusic.bandcamp.com/

Granfalloon is the project of Manchester based artist Richard Lomax. Distilling elements such as the use of unusual instruments and the mix of electronics and delicate acoustics, Granfalloon produce songs of both celebration and introspection, to bring on the dawn and to contemplate the wee small hours.

NICK VENCIDO

https://www.facebook.com/vencidos

Opening the night we have a solo set of acoustic ballads, laments and ditties from the eldest of the Vencido siblings!

SUGARSTONE:

Switched on, neon-lit and ready to blow: Manchester’s Sugarstone are defined by their dreamy soundscapes and electric nostalgia. Sugarstone have been turning heads across Manchester with heavy hitting live performances, sharing a stage with the likes of Kid Kapichi, Calva Louise and Strange Bones.

Supported by BBC Introducing and Radio X (X-Posure with John Kennedy), Sugarstone have plenty more to show in the coming months; further expanding their catalogue and proving how timeless their sound really is.

ALL HAIL HYENA:

Hailing from Burnley, Lancashire and Ferret regulars, ALL HAIL HYENA described themselves as: 'A washed up, insecure, middle-aged boy band making alt-punk rock in our pyjamas. You're entitled to hate what we do.'

HORSEMEAT:

Conceived under the apocalyptic glow of 2018’s dying winter sunlight, Horsemeat is the product of three men's desire to satiate their passion for 80s metal and 90s grunge in a safe and supportive environment. Whilst you could say Horsemeat is music for carnivores, it can be equally enjoyed by listeners of all dietary persuasions.

DOGSHIP:

Acid-punk 3-piece from Preston, merging classic energetic punk with contemporary alternative sounds. For fans of Slaves and The Blinders.

NARCISSISTS:

#SAVETHEFERRET:

Earlier this year, The Ferret received a bombshell email. The owners of the building had put it up for sale, potentially letting the place fall into the hands of a developer and putting The Ferret at serious risk of closure.

It's absolutely vital that this grassroots music venue is saved, for the people of Preston & beyond.

We've already secured £500k via our friends at the Music Venue Trust! We now need to raise the final £150k to buy the venue & continue hosting live music for years to come.

We’re asking for your donations, of any amount, to help us reach that target.

It’s a big ask, but we can do this with your help.

======================

BEACH MOUNTAIN:

Playing the music of Matthew Gallagher (Wille & The Bandits, Moon & The Beams, etc) this lineup features Dave Chambers (Formula 1, The Common Cold, uhr, Cornershop) on drums and Liam Ogburn (of Working Men's Club fame) on bass, with guests Dave Barker (Pike, Deadwood Dog) on organ and Robin Hill (The Hill Billy Gang, 8-Bitch) on special effects.

With a natural ear for music and a unique ability to connect with audiences around the world, Matthew Gallagher is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, composer, session musician, engineer and producer. His extensive experience in live performance has seen him both playing and opening for many respected and critically acclaimed artists.

THE AMBER LIST:

Enter the world of post Brexit urban folk indie blues as brought to you from the melting pot of North west England. Born of the deep North West mining village of Penwortham on't Ribble, The Amber List take a lifetime of trials and tribulations and turn them into folk-pop songs.

With a sound that many have likened to James, The Smiths, Echo and the Bunnymen and The LAs their Northwest roots evidently shine through. There is a real depth to their songs and their strong social commentary is complimented by powerful melodies, harmonies and driving guitars. The Amber List create beautifully textured soundscapes that display their talent as songwriters at the height of their craft. They make serious music for discerning listeners.

BINGO BAY:

Bingo Bay are an alt/rock/pop band from Preston, formed in 2005 by singer/songwriter Kevin Cross. Catchy, melodic songs fused with elements of pop/punk/garage and funk with the odd ballad. 'We follow our own pathway regardless of fads and fashions.'

MILLICENT:

Recent winner at the North West Music Awards, MILLICENT is a Ferret veteran. MILLICENT, who studies Songwriting at BIMM Manchester, is a dream-pop vocalist whose alternative style has attracted the attention of BBC Introducing: Manchester and The Voice UK. With mental health being a subject close to her heart, MILLICENT has acted to help break the stigma around mental health.

ONE SIDED HORSE:

“…I’m loving One Sided Horse, very Tom Waits, Asylum Years era” – Gideon Coe BBC 6Music.

In 2013, Mark Whiteside, who up to this point had worked with numerous singer songwriters and been used as a session drummer on a variety of albums, decided that he wanted to stand, or sit, at the front of the stage rather than the back. Following this decision, it was just a matter of buying an acoustic guitar and to start the process of learning painful chords to sing dark love songs to.

“… think The National, Tindersticks, even Richard Hawley, a momentous glory of stings that pull at your heartstrings…” 8/10 review, Louder Than War.

DOAD:

An alt-folk musical project fronted by George Harris, recently seen supporting Wille & The Bandits at The Ferret.

THE EMPIRE POLICE:

Noise from the heart of Lancashire.
Since forming in June of 2015, Preston quartet The Empire Police have released several singles and EP's.
The Empire Police have supported the likes of Cabbage, Twisted Wheel, Trampolene and The Sherlocks. They continue to establish themselves as a must-see live act with gigs across the North of England.
Described by Tom Robinson of BBC 6 Music as ‘completely extraordinary’, The Empire Police are certainly ones to watch.

THE WHITE HEAT:

When a nationwide lockdown hit in 2020, founding members of The White Heat Ethan Briscoe and Brad Hoyle were forced to record their musical ideas from their bedrooms, rather than in a recording studio. Just over two years later, early in February of 2022, Briscoe and Hoyle came together with Cam Proctor and Elliot Collings to officially form The White Heat. They brought with them their contrasting musical influences, 00’s alternative, 80s rock, and metal - giving The White Heat their unique wall of sound. The White Heat have gained a sizeable local following from performing live music in their home city of Preston. They released their debut single on 26th February 2022, just two weeks after their official formation.

THE GLASS SKIES:

Hailing from Huyton, Liverpool, The Glass Skies combine the Indie sound of the north-west with a raucous Pop-Punk energy to form a unique Post-Pop Punk sound.

The band consists of John Riley (vocals and guitar), Sonny Price (drums), Lachlan Challoner (lead guitar) and Ewan McClelland (bass).

HENRY HOUSE OF WOLVES:

House of Wolves take inspiration from a classic rock style, with a raw-yet-refined sound, and Henry is no different. Going solo, Henry knows how to work a crowd and get the good vibes going.

THE OUTER LINES:

If you want to see Preston's newest indie talent, these guys are the next big thing if you ask us. Ones to watch.

FACE ACHE:

Here to sink your sorrows and raise your joys via dance.
Preston made bedroom pop rock indieness, because everything’s indie these days.
 Badabing Badaboom.

CODA SMOKE:

Coda Smoke are 4 piece alternative rock band based in the North of England. Szymon, Tom, Olly and Skorge all met in university and bonded over their shared love of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Guns N' Roses.

GIDEON CONN

https://www.facebook.com/gideonconn.fanpage

Gideon Conn is known for effortlessly blending acoustic folk and hip hop. His unique performance style never fails to impress. He has previously toured across the UK with the likes of Dan le Sac vs Scroobius Pip, Jason Mraz & Bunty. He has also made appearances at various festivals including Glastonbury, Bestival & Latitude.

MCHALE'S PERMANENT BREW

https://www.facebook.com/mchalespermanentbrew

A heady five piece blues-rock concoction formed from the embers of Cat Called Dog and Selenium. They are fresh from playing the Clonakilty International Guitar Festival this summer. This will be their first appearance at the Ferret. So, make them feel welcome.

SEAMUS MCLOUGHLIN

https://www.facebook.com/seamus.mcloughlin

Seamus has cemented himself into local folklore with his excellent guitar play, immense vocal range and genuine on-stage charm. Live highlights include playing a set at SXSW festival in Texas and over the years he has gigged long and hard across the UK and USA.

LEFT

https://leftthebandofficial.bandcamp.com

With songs about Snapchat filters, narcissism, toxic masculinity, Piers Morgan and, er, terrifying children with the image of hell, LEFT, described as “noisy buggers” by those who’ve seen them, bring a chaotic show every time they play.

IVAN CAMPO

https://www.ivancampo.net

Ivan Campo conjure up vivid images with their songs, which unfold like intricate stories. Finger-picked guitar riffs and piano melodies act as the stage for these tales to play out. Emphasised with simple percussion instruments that they flit between effortlessly, they are simply captivating live.
