Whingefest was a joke that got out of hand. And here it is. Number 5! It's mainly an excuse for Whinge to play with some of their favourite bands, old friends, and new discoveries. But you lot can enjoy it too right?

The Whingefest V team:

WHINGE:

Your hosts and 'expert curators', Whinge make noise with guitars, synths and drums. Plus shouting.

Post-punk informed DIY garage-rock played with gay abandon, Whinge slam together influences from the Mondays to the Sabbath, ESG to LCD, Genesis to The Rapture.

THE RED STAINS:

Manchester's gritty post-punks, The Red Stains take pride in smashing up gender stereotypes and scattering them in your face with a chaotic energy. Shop mannequins, discount supermarkets and the Manchester Metrolink. Social inequality, misogyny and political monotony. They all get mangled by the unstoppable force of The Red Stains.

GINNEL:

Preston's post-punk primitive-noise psych outfit, GINNEL are bringing old sounds to new ears. Featuring members of The Common Cold, Big Red Bus, Notnowkato, Evil Blizzard and John Peel favourites, The Dandelion Adventure.

BABOON:

That Preston band in masks. No, the other one. From sea shanties to glam-rock synth freak-outs, covering bigamy and avian conflict, Baboon went out with a bang in 2013 then stumbled out into the light reformed in 2018. Here they are in all their glory.

HAQ123:

Heavy sounds from the heaviest band from the heaviest city on earth, brought up on the sounds of Sabbath and supercharged on Haribo!

Aged 12 and 14 years respectively, singer Millie and drummer Zac make up two thirds of Birmingham based power trio Haq123. The bass player is some older guy who used to play in Evil Blizzard.

UHR:

Taut rhythms, cheese-wire guitar riffs and oblique lyrics from this Art-Punk 3-piece.
'Solidly fluid surrealist punk rock' - Gary Hough, The Punk Site

THE STRANGE:

The Strange are East Lancashire's finest blistering post-punk & visceral garage/psych outfit.

LA FRENCH:

We're opening the Whingefest V live proceedings with some ghostly & dreamy ambient electronica & live instrumentation, as La French delivers a unique mix of jazzy & soulful hip hop beats.

Plus, Beer Garden DJ Sessions from the nicest selectors in town: Frank Lovescenes, DJ Daydream and more TBA. Whinge will probably hijack the decks at some point as well, ruining your weekend in the process.
