Hello Bastards brings another amalgamation of stuff and things to The Ferret this November. 4 colossal bands, 4 types of noise. Plus bevs.

Early kick off - doors open at 5pm.

Hello Bastards are having a (probably not a first) retirement hiatus to put on the very awesome 秘部痺れ -Hibushibire in our gaff. They've got tour buddies in the equally delicious Black Helium with them, as well as Tero Kulero and FILTHYDIRTY making sounds at you.

To buy tickets for this event please visit our events page: HIBUSHIBIRE + Black Helium + Tero Kulero + Filthydirty tickets from Skiddle .

Ticket sales powered by Skiddle

HIBUSHIBIRE - An advance-party of next generation psychedelic rock band.

BLACK HELIUM - Sonic gumbo of hard-edged psychedelic head-fuckery and Neanderthal glam rock swagger.

TERO KULERO - Preston's own epicentre of cosmic occurrences with added blowy keyboard thing.

FILTHYDIRTY - To make a Smokers Cough pour 25ml Jagermeister into shot glass and then drop 1 large spoon of mayonnaise on top. Serve.

-

This is gonna be an early kick-off around 5ish so you can drag your asses along on a presumably grizzly November Sunday and still only be half-cut for work Monday morning.

Have we ever needed great storytellers so badly? Voices to snap us out of our collective grey funk, to pull us out of our narrow, hemmed-in worlds and to lighten our days and enlighten us with their perspectives, Immersing us in their worldview and history. People who can make us laugh, cry, gasp or nod sagely, to see our world anew and not feel so alone. We need stories, vignettes, new windows to look out of, and narrators to help those new visions make sense.

In short, we need Scott Lavene. Born and raised in Essex, but a man of the world who has wandered far and wide, Lavene’s a storyteller who can capture all the madness, joy and frustration of life while singing about worms writhing in the ground. Lavene’s been in bands since his teens, but only really located the voice that makes his new album Milk City Sweethearts so remarkable – that combination of wry observation, humble wisdom, unguarded vulnerability and unpredictable humour – in a music workshop for alcoholics and addicts, long after he’d bid farewell to childhood dreams of pop stardom, and the ghosts and demons that accompany those dreams.

With his stories, Lavene makes us all feel a little less alone – he’s that voice in our ear who always has a tale more weird, more tragic, more funny than our own, but in whose experiences we can see our own. Laughter, tears, madness and redemption reside within this magical songs, the full spectrum of existence. You’d be a fool to miss out.

"A master storyteller." Tom Robinson, BBC 6 Music.

"A delicate balladeer with Robyn Hitchcock's surrealist flair" - MOJO

"Any 'best albums of 2019' lists that don't have Scott Lavene's 'Broke' near the top are bullshit" - Dangerous Minds

"Sounds like an updated version of something that Stiff records would have released in the 70's." - Steve Lamacq

"Think Baxter Dury's warped kid brother." - The Times

With added support from TOENAILS - Previously featured on BBC Introducing, with influences ranging from Damien Rice to Dora Jar, Toenails is a singer-songwriter from the grim north of England.

The Ferret presents:

WELLY

+ guests

Friday 22nd November

The Ferret, Preston

To buy tickets for this event please visit our events page: Welly + guests tickets from Skiddle .

Ticket sales powered by Skiddle

Welly is "one of the most exciting new acts in ages" (Dork Magazine).

Crashing together the best bits of escapist pop, indie-disco, punk and DIY electronics, the group—made up of Welly and his school-mates—show early ambition to reconnect the great, grassroots British tradition with the mainstream band. First single ‘Shopping’, for instance, was a riotous love-letter to the UK high street, as compelled by the arch, art-rock of Pulp as the left-field bangers of Girls Aloud. Currently working as a greengrocer, Welly is quickly building a world of curtain-twitching storytelling: recent single ‘Soak Up The Culture’ both sends-up and pays loving tribute to the Lads-On-Tour anthem, whilst 'Deere John' is a rollicking tableaux of marital strife (and a lawn-mower). With early support across 6Music, Radio X, and a run of sold-out shows and festivals, Welly are rallying a young audience likewise in search of something different (and something fun).

"Meet one of the UK's wittiest new songwriters" - NME - "a Where's Wally (or Where's Welly) of suburban England."

Blues Harvest will once again be transforming Preston into a wretched hive of scum and villainy this December as they bring their 'BLUES HARVEST HOLIDAY SPECIAL' to The Ferret!

Blues Harvest are a pop culture party band who have been delighting audiences at comic-cons, space centres and cantinas across the galaxy for over a decade.

Adapting their name from ‘Blue Harvest’ (the fake working title used to hide the 1982 production of Return of the Jedi) the band first performed their blend of geek culture with movie themes and popular hits to an audience of Star Wars fans and celebrities at a convention in 2013, and since then have built up a most impressive reputation as the go-to party band for geek events.

The UK based six-piece consists of Darth Paul (vocals & percussion), Lapti Nik (guitar & vocals), Ad Bane (guitar & backing vocals), Androo-Detoo (keyboards & backing vocals), Bass Windu (bass guitar) and Andylorian (drums & backing vocals). This talented sextet effortlessly fuse geek culture, nostalgia and energetic performances at their memorable live shows, blending their musical influences with fandom culture to result in an uplifting set of timeless movie bangers (Power of Love, Ghostbusters, Flash, Footloose), movie and TV soundtracks (Star Wars, The Mandalorian, Doctor Who, Red Dwarf), 70s awesome mixtape highlights (Hooked on a Feeling, Mr Blue Sky) and plenty of surprises along the way. Their live shows are a multimedia feast, with movie and TV footage being projected along with the music, evoking a nostalgic and crowd-pleasing experience.

“Magnificent! The lyrics, performance and John Williams’ theme fade-out: PERFECTION.” – Mark Hamill

“Blues Harvest rocks!” – Ray Parker Jr

“What a din.” – Warwick Davis

Inspired by franchises such as Star Wars, Back to the Future, Ghostbusters, Guardians of the Galaxy and many more, Blues Harvest is the perfect cantina band to celebrate the sci-fi, comics and fantasy genres.

Appearing alongside Blues Harvest will be special guests Barry Gammon + Fitzsy!

The Bug Club’s On the Intricate Inner Workings of the System is out now worldwide from Sub Pop. The album, which features feel-good ditties “Quality Pints” “Lonsdale Slipons,” “A Bit Like James Bond,” and “We Don’t Care About That,” was produced and mixed by Tom Rees at Rat Trap Studios in Cardiff, Wales, and mastered by Mikey Young.

On the Intricate Inner Workings of the System sees the band serve up a beefy slab of their signature Modern-Lovers-meets-Nuggets garage rock, featuring B-52’s call-and-response fun mixed with AC/DC power chord grunt

What people are saying about The Bug Club’s On The Intricate Inner Workings Of The System:

“On The Intricate Inner Workings Of The System... is lean and mean. Recorded with Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard’s Tom Rees at his Rat Trap studio in Cardiff, its 11 songs crackle with incisive melodies and funny pop culture-addled lyrics – they reference The Great Escape’s Virgil Hilts one minute, and move on to the horror of Lonsdale slip on daps the next – but they’re in and out in under 26 minutes. Zero fat.” - NME

“Their chemistry and unique, often very funny, point of view make these songs stand out and highly replayable.” “Indie Basement” / “Album of the Week” - Brooklyn Vegan

“...it’s swollen with post-punk that cuts through the bubblegum-coated noise of this summer’s pop extravagance.” PASTE

“It’s rare for a band to be funny in exactly this way while delivering a record that genuinely rips.” See/Saw

Red Snapper:

Notorious for casting convention aside, and remaining one of the UK’s most forward-thinking and rule breaking live bands, Red Snapper embrace a unique blend of live, euphoric instrumental Afro-Jazz, Future Funk, Dub, Dark Hip-Hop, and fragile soundscapes.

Red Snapper are proud to announce 13 UK live dates in March 2025, celebrating new releases on Lo Recordings and also 30 years of ‘Reeled and Skinned’, their first album on the legendary Warp Records.

This is an increasingly rare opportunity to catch the legendary musical force in these intimate gig venues. Could be one for the history books…!

Live line up:

Ali Friend – Bass, Vocals, Gato Drum.
Rich Thair – Drums.
Tara Cunningham – Guitar and vocals.
Tom Challenger – Saxophone, Clarinet and Keyboards.

“The only unsurprising thing about Red Snappers creative journey is their unswerving commitment to progression and innovation”.

In November 2024 Red Snapper release the ‘Tight Chest’ EP featuring LA producer David Harrow via Lo Recordings.

A follow up EP featuring the current live line up will be released in 2025 which, combined with the tracks from 'Tight Chest', will form the full vinyl album ‘Barb and Feather’.

Warp records will also be concurrently releasing a unique limited vinyl version of ‘Reeled and Skinned’, the band's acclaimed first outing for the label from back in 1995.

Following the success of their album ‘Everybody Is Somebody’ in 2022, Red Snapper released ‘Live at The Moth Club' (2023), which was a celebration of the band’s famed, worldwide live performances, spanning 3 decades, and recorded at a sell-out show at the end of their 2022 live tour.

The album demonstrates the band’s ability to constantly rework and update new and classic tracks, keeping them impassioned, experimental and as relevant as ever.

With another busy year on the horizon, Red Snapper will be taking their explosive and passionate live set on the road once again in 2025.

Barrow born indie rock band The Silver Bars started making waves on the local circuit with their electric live sets and unorthodox covers. The release of their original music has seen them go from strength to strength since, amassing hundreds of thousands of streams.

The bands most recent release ‘Modern Features’ saw them tour nationwide, playing to sell out crowds as well as joining the Kendal Calling & YNOT lineups along the way. With new music imminently in the pipeline, as far as the North West is concerned, they are certainly ones to watch.

Dirty Laces are a 4-piece alternative rock / post-punk group from Manchester, UK, comprised of Charlie Jordan (Vocals), Thomas Edwards (Bass, Synthesisers), Luke Dec (Guitar), and Luke O’Reilly (Drums, Percussion).

Dirty Laces over their career have played countless sold out shows in their hometown at prestigious venues including Gorilla, Salford Lads Club and Deaf Institute. Leading to their billing at major festivals around the UK making the lineup for Kendal Calling, Sound City, Wheels and Fins, Hardwick Festival and more.

With this traction behind them the band have been invited to open up for some legends of the music industry such as Inspiral Carpets and Pete Doherty and have had their single ‘You’ remixed by Loz Colbert (Ride, Charlatans).

Their music has not fallen on deaf ears, they have been championed by 6 Musics Chris Hawkins finding themselves played on national airwaves frequently alongside local stations such as XS Manchester whom they played live on air for in the past.

Sonically the band take inspiration wide and far from iconic predecessors like Pink Floyd, Joy Division and Queens of the Stone Age. Their debut album 'Blink For Nothing' offers a wild, unapologetic ride through ethereal atmospheres whilst maintaining the bands raw authenticity.

With the release of their eagerly awaited debut album, 'Blink For Nothing.' Independently crafted over six years that hit the airwaves on November 24th, 2023 the band have blossomed into maturity only looking forwards.

Madhouse Promotions Presents:

Nashville Pussy

With support from Takeaway Thieves

The Ferret | Preston

Tuesday, 5th November 2024 | Doors 7PM

"Nashville Pussy are one of the bands that saved Rock N Roll" (Duff McKagan)

Legendary Rockers Nashville Pussy  from Atlanta Georgia debuted in 1998 with LET THEM EAT PUSSY, the record was picked up by major label Mercury and the song Fried Chicken and Coffee was nominated for a Grammy for Best Heavy Metal Performance touring with huge names such as Motörhead, Slayer, Lynyrd  Skynrd and ZZ Top.

To buy tickets for this event please visit our events page: Nashville Pussy tickets from Skiddle .

Ticket sales powered by Skiddle

Formed in 1997, Nashville Pussy preached its sleazy gospel over the past couple of decades alongside MOTÖRHEAD in every rock outpost from Asia to Europe and back again.

Raised on a diet of Marshall stacks, Gibson Guitars, Jack Daniels, and weed, Nashville Pussy are the bastard offspring of foul-mouthed, demented hillbilly ice-cream man Blaine Cartwright and tractor-driving, nude art school model, and guitar prodigy Ruyter Suys. Nashville Pussy quickly gained a reputation for being like “AC/DC with a female Angus” in Ruyter’s blues-meets-punk frenzied guitar solos and Blaine’s hilarious “jailhouse nursery rhyme” lyrics.

The band’s bass player — Bonnie “Bon” Buitrago — began as a teenage fan of the band sneaking into shows, determined to make the leap from audience member to member of the band by mastering her craft on bass. Atlanta native and ex-landscaper Ben Thomas on drums has quickly become known for his showmanship, precision, and all-around sensuality behind the kit.

“We are rock ‘n’ rolls’ dirty little secret — blissfully outliving musical trends we never knew existed,” says Suys. “More than ever, everyone needs to escape to a place where they can pretend they don’t give a shit, let their hair down and get loud, sweaty and dirty. Nashville Pussy provides that unpretentious refuge. Everyone is welcome — just don’t dress up ’cause it’s gonna get messy.”

The Gods of Rock smiled upon on Nashville Pussy in creating the band’s brand new studio album, “Pleased To Eat You”. Combining the talents of producer Daniel Rey (Ramones, White Zombie, Ronnie Spector and Raging Slab) and studio engineer David Barrick (Black Stone Cherry, The Kentucky Headhunters, Marshall Tucker Band), the band was fresh off an international tour and hungry for new songs to sink their teeth.

“Pleased To Eat You” is their seventh studio album and certainly another milestone recording by the band you’ll need to share with your mom: Bourbon, BBQ, horse farms, good people, and a great fucking record. Seriously, you’ll hardly find a band that manages to act so easy, so fast and yet so impulsive as Nashville Pussy — a band that is not shy about expressing opinions loud and clear.

Catch Asher Roth on his European tour, showcasing a captivating live performance featuring trumpet and drums. With chart-toppers such as the gold record “Asleep on the Bread Aisle” and platinum single “I Love College” under his belt, Asher Roth is delivering a one-of-a-kind live hip hop experience that you won't want to miss.

Asher Roth is touring to celebrate the 15 year anniversary of his first album "Asleep in the Bread Aisle" which moved 600,000 units and went gold, while his hit single "I Love College" went platinum with 1.3 million units sold and 300 Million streams!

Asher Roth uses music to capture moments.

Over a decade ago, Asher demonstrated a passion for far-reaching references and advanced flows. The Morrisville, PA, WCU-lovin’ Roth relocated to Atlanta, where he partnered with DJ Drama and Don Cannon for 2008's The Greenhouse Effect mixtape.

Roth signed to Steve Rifkind (Loud Records) & Scooter Braun (SB Projects), released a double-platinum single “I Love College” and a gold debut in 2009’s - Asleep in the Bread Aisle. By 2010's Seared Foie Gras with Quince and Cranberry offering it was clear Roth was moving in his own direction. By cultivating a core fanbase through free albums like “Pabst & Jazz” and projects with Nottz & Travis Barker, Asher has been able to create a community driven career.

His belief in sustainability spawned an open air venue in his home city of Philadelphia, Sunflower Philly, to provide an outlet for artists during the pandemic while simultaneously being the inspiration for his independent releases ‘Retrohash’ and ‘Flowers On The Weekend.’ The former has become the name for his artist development company that recently played a role in expanding ‘The Greenhouse Effect’ series - while leading to collaborative albums “Why’s It So Grey Out?” and “Temporary Heaven” with Heather Grey.

Asher continues to expand on his discography while building a reputation as one of hip hop’s finest live performers.

Extra-terrestrial joymongers - HENGE - have been delighting audiences in the UK and Europe since they landed on Planet Earth nine years ago. Their scintillating live performances earned them ‘Best Live Act’ at the Independent Festival Awards and they have since cemented their reputation with three acclaimed albums, numerous tours and regular main-stage festival appearances.

Their music escapes definition, but occupies a space between rave and prog rock that nobody knew existed. It is energetic, subversive and invigoratingly playful, jovially breaking new ground. Ultimately, these intrepid creatures are spreading a message of hope which leaves audiences feeling amused and uplifted in equal measures.

For many all-time-great rock bands in the ascendant, the fourth album is often the point where youthful years of febrile creativity and progressive momentum culminate in a masterwork for the ages, setting the seal on an early signature sound while opening it up to future possibilities.

From enchanting 2016 debut Prelude, through 2018’s assured II: Sojourn, to 2020’s wizardly III: Pentecost, each Wytch Hazel album has embodied that old-fashioned notion of unstoppable progress, and the glittering treasure chest that is IV: Sacrament proves eminently worthy of rising to the toughest challenge. Not just the Lancashire quartet’s most classically beautiful production, but their strongest yet front-to-back collection of affecting hooks and ageless melodies.

Curtis Eller is a banjo player, songwriter and rock & roll singer. The lifelong show business veteran began performing at the age of seven as a juggler and acrobat, but has since turned to the banjo because that's where the money is.

His band, Curtis Eller’s American Circus, has developed a devoted international following based on spellbinding stage performances that combine a dreamlike vision of American history with silent film style, physical comedy, and explosive rock & roll energy. The iconoclastic troubadour has spent twenty-five years relentlessly touring the clubs, theatres and festivals of North America, Europe, and Australia.

This October Eller will return to the UK for a limited run of club dates, backed by a heavy-hitting, four-piece lineup of The American Circus featuring musicians from both sides of the Atlantic.

The tour celebrates their release of their new album, "Another Nice Mess." The recording captures the band in their ragged, retro splendor, as they guide listeners through a sepia-tinged world of tightrope walkers, heavyweight brawlers, Hollywood scream queens, firing squads, fallen soldiers and conscientious objectors. At the heart of the forthcoming set is ‘Another Nice Mess': A sweet, sentimental waltz about the enduring friendship between Laurel & Hardy.

You are invited to run away with the circus when this little big top comes to town!

Forming in 2019 and consisting of Kingsley Hall on vocals and Robbie Major on synths and noise, Benefits quickly evolved into a highly politicised group that aims to merge noise, hardcore, hip hop, industrial rock, electronica, and an angry twitter feed to get its point across.

A resolutely DIY outfit they have managed to gain fans as diverse as Sleaford Mods, Steve Albini, Black Francis, Garbage, Billy Bragg and Elijah Wood as well as getting significant features in the NME, Rolling Stone, the Guardian, and the Quietus.

In 2023 they released their abrasive debut album “NAILS” on Invada Records which garnered significant critical acclaim as well as numerous album of the year nods, most significantly from Louder Than War magazine and BBC6music.

An inspiring, loud and formidable live outfit, they aim to keep the momentum going from their debut as they prepare to release the follow up.

The new house is full of surprises and seems strangely familiar. After a series of odd events, Jo begins to research the history of the house. She is not prepared for what she discovers, when the past begins to reveal itself. It is a play about love, loss and new beginnings.

It shows the development and changes in the relationship of the two characters and the consequences of his actions.

In the aftermath of a blurry night, Eve wakes up disoriented and half-dressed. Amidst the scattered remnants of the night before, she grapples with the unsettling gaps in her recollections, while James, with his own hidden agenda, tries to manage the situation. Tension mounts as Eve’s piecemeal revelations hint at a darker truth, leaving her to question everything, including James’ intentions.

This is Baines’ first original piece of work, having recently graduated from Preston College’s Actor Training Academy. In 2024, Baines was one of two Lancaster Playwriting Prize winners, funded by the Dukes Theatre in Lancaster and Lancaster University.

The play is part of the new commissions program for Lancashire Fringe Festival.

Everybody is welcome at this little shindig to celebrate MAMBO, our resident Ferret photographer, reaching the grand old age of 40!

Singers, Bands, DJs... it's all happening!

DJ Chrissy G aka TELSTAR will be kicking things off, with an eclectic bag of tunes from old funk & soul 7 inches to bang-up-to-date bangers.

Then we're going to be serenaded by the incredible Eve Connah who will be singing a selection of hits that we all know and love.

Following Eve, the legend that is Henry Sheridan from House of Wolves will be doing a solo set which will no doubt be amazing.

Then the brilliant "Billy and the Biscuit Brothers" will continue the night's theme of playing absolute cracking songs with a selection of covers which Mambo has personally hand-picked from their repertoire.

BURVANA, the Nirvana Tribute Band from Burnley... are the final act on stage for the night, getting our heads banging with all the classic Nirvana hits!

Think that's it?? Naahhhh!!! DJs will be seeing us through to close playing an eclectic mix of bangin' music, covering pretty much everything from Emo to Jungle and everything in-between!

We hope you can make it along for what will be an amazing night.

A funny and intimate queer one-person play exploring sexuality, shame… and toilets.

He’s lost in life. He doesn’t have a job, he doesn’t have direction… but he does have a secret. He spends his days cruising men’s toilets, finding secret pleasure with strangers. But over the course of the play, his secrets start to catch up on him, his shame builds, and the people around him start to pay the price…

Henry Roberts is a queer writer and photographer originally from Lancashire now based in London. In his work, Henry explores questions of memory, identity and intimacy in an uncertain world. He was a member of the Young Vic’s 2022 cohort of young theatre-makers. His plays have reached the final 100 submissions for the Soho Theatre’s Verity Bargate Award and have been long listed in the RSC’s 37 Plays project and by the Traverse Theatre.

Qujaku

+ The Big Them

Tuesday, 1st October 2024

Doors 7PM

Formed in 2013, QUJAKU are a Japanese experimental band based in Hamamatsu. Their dark, heavy psychedelia is replete with rich distortion and feedback creating a unique decadent ambience.

The apocalyptic sound they muster fuels an urge to release from the everyday to discover an ephemeral beauty behind the fierceness. The delicate yet strong leading voice, filled with destructive guitar, repetitive rhythmic percussion, and deep, bellowing bass combine to create Qujaku's unique sound atmosphere to preoccupy the mind and enhance the experience.

QUJAKU is Shuya Onuki - Vocal & Guitar, Soushi Mizno - Guitar, Hiromi Oishi - Bass & Alto Saxophone & Ryo Habuto - Drums

THE BIG THEM - Made up of musicians from some of our favourite underground bands, The Big Them is the brainchild of Jack and Jonny, who you’ll know better as two thirds of the finest noise makers out of Widnes: Mums. The duo have been experimenting with guitar sounds for a little while now, but for this latest project the idea was simple – get a bunch of mates together and jam some big, stinking riffs.

For this current incarnation of the band, Jack and Jonny roped in previous Mums drummer and total power-house Lew back behind the kit, alongside Alex from Northwich indie-punks Careering and Ed from Leeds premier scuzz lords Irk. The result is exactly what you’d expect; hypnotic, sludgy riffs that centre around a tirade of guitar noise and gargantuan drums.
