The Bug Club’s On the Intricate Inner Workings of the System is out now worldwide from Sub Pop. The album, which features feel-good ditties “Quality Pints” “Lonsdale Slipons,” “A Bit Like James Bond,” and “We Don’t Care About That,” was produced and mixed by Tom Rees at Rat Trap Studios in Cardiff, Wales, and mastered by Mikey Young.
On the Intricate Inner Workings of the System sees the band serve up a beefy slab of their signature Modern-Lovers-meets-Nuggets garage rock, featuring B-52’s call-and-response fun mixed with AC/DC power chord grunt
What people are saying about The Bug Club’s On The Intricate Inner Workings Of The System:
“On The Intricate Inner Workings Of The System... is lean and mean. Recorded with Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard’s Tom Rees at his Rat Trap studio in Cardiff, its 11 songs crackle with incisive melodies and funny pop culture-addled lyrics – they reference The Great Escape’s Virgil Hilts one minute, and move on to the horror of Lonsdale slip on daps the next – but they’re in and out in under 26 minutes. Zero fat.” - NME
“Their chemistry and unique, often very funny, point of view make these songs stand out and highly replayable.” “Indie Basement” / “Album of the Week” - Brooklyn Vegan
“...it’s swollen with post-punk that cuts through the bubblegum-coated noise of this summer’s pop extravagance.” PASTE
“It’s rare for a band to be funny in exactly this way while delivering a record that genuinely rips.” See/Saw

DUBINSKI
The bonds that hold Dubinski in place are unbreakable. Four brothers who’ve literally been through everything together - from childhood through adolescence, success and grief – using music as the gel to hold them in place.
Brought up in rural Scotland - Glenlivet in Speyside, to be precise - but with deep roots in North Yorkshire, their songs could only come from a place of complete trust, shared adventure, and total abandon. And the musical result of this familial experience: it’s rock meets pop, delivered in a manner that’s uniquely theirs - high energy bangers interspersed with introspective repose, all delivered with electronic production in an organic setting. Dubinski are making 21st century anthems, and it’s time for the world to listen.
Taken as a whole, Dubinski’s debut album is a shattering, cathartic experience. It’s a record fueled by brotherhood and trust, by loss and the empowering impact of communal emotion. More than anything else, it’s a launching point, a marker of the sheer will that has dragged Dubinski from the Highlands of Scotland out into the bigger world. “I sometimes wonder what the hell we would be doing if we didn't have a band,” Eoin muses. “It’s the umbilical cord that keeps us all together.”
REVIVALRY
Revivalry are an indie rock band with members from Louth and Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire, UK. They burst onto the local scene in 2019 with their original track “Bullet.
The band cite the main influencers for their own music as Arctic Monkeys as well as Welsh Indie Rockers, Catfish and the Bottlemen.
CADAVER BEACH
Cadaver Beach are a four-piece Alternative-Rock band from Preston. Formed in 2022 the band are quickly gaining a reputation for their energetic live performances and are starting to make waves on the North West music scene.
The band's lineup features four talented musicians who share a deep passion for creating music that resonates with their audience. The incredible soaring vocals and machine gun rhythm guitar playing from lead singer Freyja is complemented by the sonic mastery of lead guitarist Kian whose intricate guitar riffs and soulful solos add depth and intensity to the band's sound. Driving the rhythm section are the dynamic duo of bassist Taylor and drummer Becca. Taylor’s melodic basslines provide a solid foundation for the band's music, while Becca’s powerful and precise drumming sets the heartbeat of every song, infusing it with energy and momentum. The band draws inspiration from a diverse range of musical influences ranging from My Chemical Romance, Twenty One Pilots and Green Day, to Roger Waters and the Foo Fighters. Since their formation, Cadaver Beach has been performing on the local music circuit, captivating audiences with their electric live shows.

Cowtown:
Leeds heroes of the DIY punk scene, and one of our favourite bands of Glastonferret 2023. All hail COWTOWN! Dynamic overstimulated indie-rock and devolved synth-punk space jams.
Pleasureinc.:
PleasureInc. is the genre-fluid musical brainchild of brothers Jesse and Louis Baker. Jaded with playing in indie bands, the Norwich based duo began formulating a new type of project in early2021, creating music and visual content that reflected their love for hip hop, indie, pop, fashion, film and the 90s. Through aliases Kenny Pleasures and Jonny Silver, the brothers project a playful perspective in their music, pulling sounds and attitudes from the likes of Blur, Beastie Boys, easylife and Tyler, The Creator. PleasureInc. permeate personality like good cheese permeates stink. You simply can’t help but take notice.
Ginnel:
Ginnel are a noise/psych outfit featuring members of some of Preston's most celebrated and critically acclaimed bands (The Common Cold, notnowkato, Big Red Bus, The Dandelion Adventure and Erskine Brown).
"Psyched up, fazed out observations; character studies that wouldn’t seem out of place sat on the sofa with the Royals. At the end of the room in the bed, it wouldn’t be Nanna though, it would be Mark E Smith sending Lurkio for 20 Embassy, a gram and a 4 pack of Stella. This is NorthWestern psyched up punk waking up on the bench in Preston bus station spouting unwanted wisdom at the early shift." - Louder Than War
Better Joy:
Better Joy, the alternative-pop band created and led by Bria Keely, is a deft fusion of classic and contemporary influences, which boldly celebrates the tensions between opposing states. Introversion and extroversion, complexity and simplicity, the literal and the metaphorical are all polarities put under the microscope on her forthcoming single ‘Hard To Love’.
Pageant Mum:
Wear your heart on your sleeve kids! And Pageant Mum do just that! They leave nothing behind with their post hardcore punky angst, driven guitars and feisty truthful lyrical content. When you figure out that this comes from a group of teenagers, Pageant Mum suddenly become your new favourite band, one to follow, one to celebrate and one to champion. Live they are a force of nature, on record their heart is laid bare and the angular twists and turns of Fugazi meet Paramore meet The Bronx resonate throughout.
TV Face:
The band called TV FACE are a gang of three from Lancaster. Their debut album Tide of Men was released on Crackedankles Records (Evil Blizzard, Thank) in September 2023. It was named Louder Than War’s album of the week, describing the band as ‘a wonderful trident of piercing guitar, bass and drums, unified by vocals through the torrent of hot noise, thunderous rumble and acid-scuzz.’
Dragged Up:
"like The Fall circa 83, jangling guitars nearly in tune, merged with Sonic Youth. It’s slackedrist, it’s proto-grunge, it’s indie with edge" - Aural Aggravation
LISTEN: https://draggedup.bandcamp.com/album/hex-domestic-ep
dead things:
This three-piece from Chorley are as likely to be found in their local library, raking through the microfiche as they are in their rehearsal cellar. Obsessed with tales of death in their hometown, they yell their findings against a scuzzy fuzz-imbued racket. Catchy, infectious post-punk at its best, homegrown in Lancashire.
Notnowkato:
Big riffs, tight harmonies and indie rock disturbances in slightly odd time signatures.

Adding their campy theatrics into this equation and their flamboyant aesthetic and upbeat presence captures you.

Skinny Living’s story is one of struggle, troubling situations and relentless hard graft. It’s also one of synchronicity, chance meetings, and the unflinching belief that their glorious indie soul music will reach the audience it deserves. Their potential is there to see. Echoing Bill Withers, The Isley Brothers and Paolo Nutini, their songs shimmer with a timeless, gentle beauty, exquisite vocal harmonies and a lyrical wisdom that inspires optimism and reflection in equal measure.
The bands sound is defined by two acoustic guitars and vocal harmonies delivered by Wakefield natives Will Booth and Danny Hepworth, while the exquisite and ever-so-slightly haunted vocal and lyricism in the midst of it all belongs to front man Ryan Johnston, born in Belfast to a Catholic mother from the Republican area and a Protestant father from the other side of town. Their polar opposite backgrounds meant a family move to Bangor before Ryan later moved to England, where he met Will and Danny at an open mic night and formed the band.
Skinny Living have been active since 2014. In that time they have amassed over 60 million streams world wide without releasing a full studio album, however the trio are now on course to release their Debut Album in 2023
The band recently shared the meaning behind their name, which is apt given their songs are often full of big dreams from a modest background: “Skinny Living is a term that describes the financial reality and lifestyle of the working class. Hard graft on a low income with a lust for life, passion for family and an optimistic attitude about the future.”

Established in late 2014, IST IST have forged a formidable reputation on the back of uncompromisingly intense live shows and a fierce DIY work ethic. Releasing their debut album ‘Architecture’ in the midst of the pandemic on their own label Kind Violence Records, the LP found significant success in the indie, physical and vinyl charts.
Second album ‘The Art of Lying’ was released in November 2021, peaking at number 87 in the UK Top 100 and firmly establishing the band as one of the leading lights of a new era for music born in Manchester. The release was followed by a ten-date UK tour including sold out shows in Manchester, London and Bristol, as well as a string of sell-out European dates too.
The band released their much-anticipated third album, ‘Protagonists’ in 2023 to huge acclaim, performing to a sold out O2 Ritz in hometown Manchester on the same night. The album charted at an antagonising #41 in the UK album chart, before the group embarked on a huge UK and European tour with sold out shows across the board, including 700 cap Melkweg in Amsterdam.
IST IST return in 2024 off the back of a Live album recorded at that landmark Amsterdam show, with plenty more to come in their tenth year…

« Hassan K.’s performance consumes traditional Iranian music, a Nintendo 64 emulator or even surf garage straight out of the 60’s, all at the same time. » - Gonzaï
Hassan K. is a mystical one man band from Persia. Open source, DIY artist, Hassan mixes folklore and technologies, occident and orient, surf music and bellydance, swing and heavy metal… in crazy live acts, not too far from trance. Independent Venue Week 2024
Independent Venue Week (#IVW) is the UK’s annual 7-day celebration of independent music & arts venues and the people that own, run and work in them (that's us!)
This #IVW24 The Ferret presents a series of shows that we're really proud of. If you can make it to one or more of them, brilliant - let's see you down the front. 2 shows already sold out, so get your tickets as soon as you can!
Let's come together and celebrate these special places, which are the backbone of the live music scene. From giving artists their first experience of performing live, fans somewhere to discover and watch their favourite artists locally, they also provide those wanting a career off-stage the chance to learn their craft in a safe and secure environment. Independent Venue Week is a nationwide initiative with a local feel, highlighting why venues are so much more than just places for live music – they are cultural hubs for learning, creativity, arts and culture more widely connecting people in their local community of all ages, backgrounds, abilities, genders, ethnicities, skills, experiences and walks of life.
